Guest Hawkmoon Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Hi all, I haven't read too much around here about this little utility but I thought some of you may be interested in my experience. Reading a lot about everyone's greatly differing views regarding the best HTPC MPEG2 video codec for live FTA HDTV viewing, it made me wonder if some users were using this or any other similar app to configure the preferred Decoder before doing their live testing. To me it makes a huge difference to the video quality. The key is to use the Microsoft util to set the preferred decoder, whether it be DScaler, Cyberlink, InterVideo, MPV, nVidia, etc, correctly and then match that with the video codec being used within the viewing app. If you do not do ensure this consistency then video quality may suffer and/or video/audio sync issues may occur and that may lead you to incorrectly conclude that certain decoders are far poorer than others. Cheers, Dan
dezzy Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Am I missing something? If this utility works, why have you posted two other threads about crappy picture quality?

The utility does work but my current HDTV playback is still poor and when not syncing the preferred decoder with the HTPP app my viewing is even worse.
