Bobbyc Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 A couple of years ago, I bought a cheap and nasty Conia STB to see what all the fuss was about with Digital TV. It worked OK and we were so impressed we upgraded to a PVR after a couple of weeks. I recently bought an LCD for our bedroom and got the old Conia out of the wardrobe and fired it up again. It still worked well for a couple of days until it had a minor nervous breakdown. It reverted to the set-up menu which required a channel scan. During the scanning process everything seemed to be happening - channels detected, etc. - but it will not exit from the set-up menu. I tried various combinatons of STB's and TV's - the problem is definitely with the STB. Can any-one advise me how to bump it into action?
BribieG Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 There's a thread somewhere about why STBs don't yet seem to be a mature industry and keep failing. Even my LG high def box locks up at least once a week. I have to turn it off at the wall then switch it on, then it 'reboots'. All I can suggest is run it and turn it on and off a few times at the power source, and see if it will behave. ALDI have a SD box at the moment for about the price of a slab.

Was it ventelated much?
wahroonga farm Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Personally I'd buy a new one. I run a 'Supernet Tuner,8050T' and a 'High End Wintal' (Wintal-X5), which both run cool and use the simple but robust Digenius firmware. They're available at the right price on eBay and elsewhere.
Richie37 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I think a lot of brands must still have trouble. I have a Kaon SD STB that I have been using for 3 years. It has an 80 GIG HDD biult in. I can't seem to rewind it for TV. It rewinds a little bit, the picture freezes and it resets itself, loosing all the memory and the program I wanted to see of course! Richard.
FunkTrust Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I was actually looking into buying a Conia. From what I can see, it is not recommended. The particular one I was looking at was $49. Would it be worth it to buy it for such a cheap price. It comes with 1 years warranty.
