ryanmagicaus Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 i'm getting a new receiver yammy 2700b - just wondering what the best way is to output surround sound by the PC card to the receiver? Thanks Ryan.
OakenShield1 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 All you need is a sound card that outputs/decodes Digital Surround. Most simple systems don't come with one "Out of the box" However I believe they are fairly cheap to purchase. Why do you want to hook it up to your computer? DVD? Games? or tv?
glennb Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Just use a Co-ax or optical S/PDif cable, assuming your motherboard has the output plug.
natrat Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 What wacko said. Most decent mid and high range motherboards now have SPDIF (coax digital) onboard. Just plug it into your receiver.
moochy1503560064 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 if not something like a hoontech add on card for any soundblaster card may be a cheap way to upgrade your existing computer
ryanmagicaus Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Will this work with programs that are encoded with ac3 audio, tv etc? Thanks
ryanmagicaus Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 this board apparently has - Audio - ASUS A8v Deluxe 8.1-Channel Realtek codec with S/PDIF optical and RCA output ports
glennb Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Using the S/Pdif connection bypasses all the onboard audio stuff and it will just send the audio straight to your AVR. Doesn't matter if the onboard audio is 5 channel or 50 channel, it comes down to what your AVR can handle. Ditto with AC3, as the AVR will need to decode this and decide if it's 2 Ch or a 5 Ch stream.
