Pawel Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Hi I need some help I have 7k to spend on Speakers for Home theatre. I need full surround package except for a sub as I own a MkII. I would love to buy these through any of the retailers that do interest free terms in Sydney. Currently own Accousound Delta series 5 years old Speakers is it worth the upgrade for the money?
yamapro Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I dunno, is $7k a years rent, a new car or a night out on the town for you? What electronics are you running with them? What exactly is an MkII sub? (pardon my ignorance) If you are looking to interest free do you really have $7k to spend on speakers? Do you listen to music? What types? Cd only or multichannel SACD or DVD-A? What kind of listening environment do you have?
simon62731503560075 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Hey Pawel, I also have a pair of ELAC Cinema Pipes for rears, if you're interested Model: ELAC Cinema Pipe (silver) Price: $1130 USD per pair Dimensions: 35.5"H x 3.5"W x 4"D Weight: 13.25 pounds each
quijibo Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 You have $7k but want interest free? I wouldn't spend $7k on speakers from Harvey Norman. Go to your nearest specialist hifi store and ask to demo their best speakers. Don't tell them how much you have to spend, tell them you have enough to pay for whatever you like.

OakenShield1 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 How long is a piece of string? Some would say it is worth the upgrade, some would say it isn't. Some would say this speaker sounds the best, others would say that would. Can you afford 7K if you are going interest free? Thats my only concern reading your original request. Also as stated that limits you mostly to the big non-specialist chains. Which means you may not get the best advice/service or product. Prices wouldn't be as competitive either as you are going interest free and they don't make as much money on that. Agree with Deflepper, get out there, have a listen, no-one can tell you what sounds best to your ears but you. Having said that, don't write off the Aussie speakers either, keep an open mind Happy auditioning!
Pawel Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Amp is Yamaha RX2700 the setup is for home theatre as I just bought a new SONY 70" SXRD which I bought for cash so prefer to buy speakers on interest free. Like I said currently running Accusound Delta DL 895 for mains Delta DLC 165 centre and DL 525 for rear. The MKii sub is from Eastwood hifi bought few a years back well over $1500 for the sub very happy with the sub. Trying to get best bank for buck speakers is it worth while going for 3 rear speakers these days also.

Gotta be better than interest free and that way you can go to the major stores and stick to the top brands... I started off by buying my Fronts, then picked up the rears, then the centre and then the sub.. I basically lay bye'd the whole package from the home theater store for a good price and then as i payed off the lay bye they let me take them home..
Pawel Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Can people give recommended brands and rough price guides
norpus Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Can people give recommended brands and rough price guides Sure, this is a very good reference http://www.stereo.net.au/forum/index.php?s...ost&p=11645 I agree with Scott above, get the speakers piecemeal as you can afford and get the best you can afford so you keep them forever*. If you like your sub, you are almost half way there in HT. The first and most important speaker you need for best HT is a great centre. 70% of the movie audio is contained here! Next, if you desire good 2ch music sound, the main stereo pair is important. So my advice is to get your front soundstage sorted with some quality - spend the 6-7K there on the front 3. Use your other cheaper existing speakers for the 4 rears - rears are not as important for SQ *Speakers can last you 10-20 years if chosen well - other HT items may only last 2-4yrs before they are effectively obsolete
yamapro Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Agree with Norpus... but as great an AVR as the 2700 is, it will soon get out of depth running a $7K front three I'd think that would be the next logical upgrade after FL C FR, then the surrounds could come last
Aspect Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Whatmough are currently discounting their P32 range, as it's been superceded by the P33. The full P32 5.1 setup is $5,500, which is apparently heavily discounted from around the $9k mark. $5k will also get you into a pair of Krix Neuphonic mains, and an epicentrix centre. Doubt you'd get either on interest free terms though, as they're from specialist stores, unless the stores accept something like an AGC card. Cheers, Chris

Although I do not have them.Don't discount Aussie speakers. If you want a price list for Osborne, send me a PM with your email address.
Aspect Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Yeah, I'm a big fan of them actually. I'm leaning heavily towards them for several reasons: Price, value for money (awesome sound for the $$$), look good, Australian. Not to mention I like the fullness of the sound. Everything else I've demo'd has been to bright, or hollow... Cheers, Chris
nis200979 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Can people give recommended brands and rough price guides If you need a forum to give you brands then my advice; don't spend $7k. Personally, I love the Dynaudio range, give Canton a try, the non chinese Mission are great. Just take some good CDs to your local HiFi specialist and judge $2000, $4000, and $7000 systems. You might be surprised, maybe not.

Pawel Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 I spoke to Steve at Eastwood Hifi he is directing we towards the Paradigm range of speakers
LukeF1503559517 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Vaf DC series for the win. You could get the whole package for about 4-5k. Best speakers for the money IMHO. Only problem is you'd have to go to Adelaide.
Pawel Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Looking at the Paradigm Signature S4 at Eastwood tomorrow what pricing should I expect quoted around 5k so far
joz Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Hi Pawel, thers some very good advice here from the likes of Norpus and Prior. Really the last thing you want to do is upgrade again in the future. No doubt you may realise this is when you loose money. So buy well first time. As suggested spend the $$ on the three main fronts, this is where your focus is and this is where all the good stuff happens,be it Ht or stereo.Your existing stuff will do an admirable job of the rears, don't worry. What you will waste money on is buying cheaper and inferior speakers. Both the Whatmough and the Krix is where my money would be,btw I'm partial to the Whatmough P series. Though I have not heard the recent Paradigms I believe they are quite good aswell. It's just thst the homegrown stuff is hard to beat for the $$$.Also don't discount Lyles suggestion of Osborn either incase you haven't heard of them.
