Hey there all,

I have a Nintendo Wii (with component cables), Sony KVHRM31M36 widescreen (81cm). I am finding that when ever I want to use my Wii in widescreen I have to manually set the television's widescreen mode from 'normal' to 'full'.

I don't have to do this for my pioneer DVD player, Sony HD STB, or Xbox360 (all running component cables as well), so can anyone explain why this is happening?

I have toggled with the TV's auto wide mode (which is usually on), but I get the same problem.

The Wii is definitely in 16:9 mode (and I have tried its three output forms 50Hz, 60Hz and EDTV), and once I manually set it to wide it looks superb. I am just sick of having to manually change it every time I switch between devices and/or when I go from 4:3 game on the Wii to the Wii menu which is in 16:9.

Does anyone else get this problem with their widescreen TVs (CRT, Plasma, LCD or projector), or can anyone explain what I can do to fix this?

BTW, this problem occurs regardless of whether the Wii is plugged straight into my TV's component in's or whether it goes through my component AV selector.

Cheers

It's of little consolation but I have the same issue, with no workaround. Wii, component cables (official) and Sony 76CM Widescreen CRT HD TV.

I don't know how it is on your TV, but isn't "normal" 4:3 and "full" 16:9 ??

Thats how it is for me on my Sony 76cm HD CRT.

Mate, if any consolation, the PS3 and Xbox 360 both work perfectly on the KVHR I have through component.

Have you tried your Wii on any other widescreen display?

Yeah, my 360, STB and DVD player all switch to the appropriate setting depending on their contents, but for some reason the Wii doesn't. This leads me to believe that the Wii is not sending some carrier signal which tells the CRT to switch modes. Or if it is, that the Sony isn't picking this up.
