BassTeQ Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Hi all, a friend has purchased a Pioneer VSX 1016V Receiver and a Jensen Subwoofer. He's having a problem where the sub will only turn on when it detects a 5.1 signal, and we cant work out why! For example he has foxtel connected via optical cable to the pioneer receiver, when watching movie channels with 5.1 surround the Sub will turn itself on, but NOT when watching a stereo channel. Any ideas what could be causing this, we've gone through the pioneer manual and cant find any relevant settings we may need to change? Another friend has the exact same sub woofer and a lower model pioneer amp and all works as expected! Cheers

Cheers Signal will only be sent to the sub (other than the dedicated .1 LFE information) if some/all speakers are set to small, and the appropriate Crossover is in place. Crossover being all information (THX recommends 80Hz) below the selected frequency is sent to the sub for output. THX recommendation are all speakers (regardless of physical size and capability) are set to "Small" and crossover is set at 80Hz. There are a gazillion threads on this, and make sure you check the FAQ's on this forum for more advice. Hope that helps. Aaron

Aaron Thanks for the reply, I never realised that this small/large setting worked in the manner it does. I'll get him to change all his speakers to small and hopefully it will do the trick! Cheers
