well I finally got around to doing this update last night.

Took about an hour over 1.5Mb ADSL (yeah, call me a daredevil  )

Can't say I've really noticed any difference since the upgrade, maybe load times are marginally quicker.

Andrew.

I havent tried the update over the net as it involves running about 15 metres of cable through the house, and removing the A1 from the cabinet its currently in. I do have wireless in the room but with this kind of update Id rather not risk it. Has anybody had similar experience like mine and not been able to update the unit via CD, but tried online and worked?

Reason I ask is a lot of guys who are having problems with the ISO have also tried on the net and it too has failed.

Maybe the person who played with the ISO last time is back at their old games again. The download worked okay a week or so ago, this has always been my fear with downloading ISO's from a non Toshie source.

I know Al has received a copy of the firmware I sent to him and he updated his machine with it but I think he has handed it on to other people now.

The ISO I have is the one that everybody else has - it has come from Toshiba themselves (online). However for those on here that are not aware there have been a lot of problems with people struggling to get their A1 machines to read the disc, despite using different media, software etc etc. There doesnt seem to be any pattern.

Funnily enough, I bit the bullet and attempted the upgrade over Optarse Cable modem last night too.... but I couldn't get it to find the server after succefully getting past the Accept Terms & Conditions screens.

I was not aware that Toshiba actually made the ISO available to download, I know you can update over the net but I was not aware that they made the provision to download the ISO to your PC for burning. Have you got a link to the firmware ISO on the Toshiba website cause I would like to bookmark it for future ISOs?

I’m sorry about last night, work has been killing me this week, hopefully get better as the weeks progress. I’ll leave it until next weekend since tomorrow is mother’s day, and you’ll probably be busy with the family.

Just an update to say I managed to update to FW 2.2 via the net. Happy Jan!

I tried watching Children of Men last night, but it began stuterring a couple of chapters into it before eventually crashing. So I downloaded the v2.2 ISO, burnt it using BurnAtOnce.... and presto, I'm now on v2.2 on the first attempt.

One interesting thing with the Children of Men disc though is that the HD-A1 does a terrible job of de-interlacing it when you set the output resolution to 720p (which is native res for my projector). It presents with one of the worst cases of jaggies I've ever seen.

So I changed the HD-A1's output to 1080i, and whilst the PQ wasn't quite as sharp... the jaggies were gone and the movie was once again watchable.

I’ve just connected the player to the internet and currently have it doing an update via this. It’ll be interesting how long it takes and if it doesn’t time out.

Well thats 2 out of 2 internet updates that have worked for me, shouldve had faith and tried that instead of the 12-15 CDRs I ruined trying the ISO.

Same here, I only upgraded to v2.0 via CD, v2.1 & v2.2 have both been successful online updates.

update worked fine for me via ISO, have yet to play a movie with it yet. will do a quick test, then I want to update the VP50 to try out the new 3:2 locked DI modes. it's funny, don't think I really need to keep mucking around with updating firmwares etc... since everything works the way I want without problems, but it gives a tinkerer like me something to do
