sterlo Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hi everyone, I've just been speaking to Aaron Rigg from Melbourne, who is the Asia Pacific representive for ISF Calibrations (and head trainer) about possibly getting my TV ISF Calibrated, in Canberra. Aaron doesn't have any plans to come to Canberra to arrange anything, (he gets a lot of business in the big cities, Sydney and Melbourne) but, I mentioned I've heard of a couple of other people from Canberra who may be interested. Just wondered if people out there were interested, could they let me know. Aaron asked me to send a list of names, and if there is enough of a demand for him (it's a long trip from Melbourne to Canberra just for one job. But, he is often in Sydney, which would be much closer) he could very well make a special trip down here. As most people know, an ISF Calibration is simply the greatest thing you can do for your new TV. I understand they cost between $250-$400 depending on the set, and after reading those comments from people who've had it done, it's said if their plasma out of the box and after a basic Video Essentials calibration is a 5 out of 10, an ISF Calibration sends it straight up to a 9.5-10 out 10. For TV's costing mega thousands..I would love to get it done and feel that it would be worth the money. If anyone from Canberra out there is interested, please let me know. Aaron asked me to email him a list of names, and he would get back to me when he may be able to make it up. Thanks all Andrew
digitalhome Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Any idea if he is coming to little ol Adelaide?
andym Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Any idea if he is coming to little ol Adelaide? I'll probably be in that too.
sterlo Posted April 29, 2007 Author Posted April 29, 2007 Hi there, thanks for your response. If you're keen, could you please PM me with the brand/model of your TV, and I'll forward to Aaron. At this point I only have one other taker besides you.... Don't know if he'd do it for 3 people! But, when I spoke to him on the phone, he said normally when he's in Sydney, he only does 2. So... you never know! Cheers Andrew
Baf05 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I am interested too, but I have pmed Sterlo already, this post is a pretty blatant post to bring the thread back to the front page!

Maz78 Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Dumb question - Isn't this the sorta thing you can do with a calibration CD / DVD? Paying hundreds for someone to tweak your colour / brightness / etc etc sounds a bit crazy...
Chask Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Dumb question - Isn't this the sorta thing you can do with a calibration CD / DVD? Paying hundreds for someone to tweak your colour / brightness / etc etc sounds a bit crazy... Well, I'm sure a professional calibration would provide a better result than just using a calibration DVD such as "Digital Video Essentials" but whether the difference is worth the money may be questionable. What I don't understand is how you calibrate to suit all possible inputs. For example I can calibrate using the DVE dvd mentioned, but that only means the screen is at optimum setup for a dvd, but when I then go to a STB or Foxtel, I need to re tweak to handle the idiosyncrasies of the input device (not that I bother). The point is that you really need to do more than just calibrate the screen, you need to match it to ALL your inputs, and I'm not sure you can really acheive that. For me - near enough is good enough.

Paying hundreds for someone to tweak your colour / brightness / etc etc sounds a bit crazy... I had my Panasonic TH50PX600A calibrated by Aaron last week and the difference is amazing. This is not something I rushed into but after paying so much money for the TV believed it should have the best picture possible. He also set up my DVD and Xbox for the best possible picture as well. I like to have my car tuned to run at it's best and looked at this the same way.
Souwalker Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Aaron calibrated my pio 507, 2 Mondays ago and it's stunning. He told me I was loosing alot of details in the image as it is. Image is close to 3 D like. That Friday I had the time to actually sit down and watch I Robot after the calibration. I sat down and my jaw dropped!!!! I even shouted and called my wife down to have a look at the image. Stunning! DTV was a 'Huge' improvement. Foxtel was much better too bearing in mind, foxtel is below SD. GIGO (Garbage In - Garbage out). The 'User' setup detects and remembers individual source going into the individual inputs of the plasma hence the ability to calibrated separately for each source. That's for the 507 and I am not sure with other plasmas or LCDs is the same. He uses a special claibration software with a remote control like device which he places on the glass and detects the colour temperature etc etc. yes it cost me $360 but it's the best $360 I've spent on my plasma. I have the DVE disk too but without the proper calibration tools, there is no way we could get it right. Rgds Pat

How long did it take Aaron to calibrate your TV?
Maz78 Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Humour me, some of you guys who have had it calibrated, post some of your settings.. I know ideally everyones viewing conditions are different, but if you were to view in a DARK room with no lights on, shouldn't the settings be almost identical. How different was the calibration settings from what you have used / tried, etc? BTW: How long does it take?
