pheggie Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Can some one with a PCI Sat card please post the bit rates for the movie channels. I'm considering buying a PCI Sat card and CAM and am wondering whether the bit rate warrants the expense for better recording quality over a DVD recorder.
DrP Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The bitrates are comparable to Foxtel's bitrates for Movie network channels, but I have heard some complaints that at times its a bit blocky. I don't have select so I can't comment on the PQ. Are Select's movie network channels on a muxes that only contains Select channels or on a mux shared with someone else? If someone else then they might be getting a bit of mistreatment by poor stat muxing via a 3rd party's equipment. A direct dump of the MPEG video will always be better than a consumer grade analogue recording. Why not get a PVR? If the idea is to transfer to a DVD (no pay operator likes you doing that either), then get a PVR with a PC interface.
pheggie Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 I've got an mpeg2 capture card it's okay but SCART RGB input of some DVD Recorders should be better. I just think they're overpriced.
pheggie Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 Got my Sat card Visionplus SAT-CI and Iredeto CAM doesn't play channels well at all sort of plays them slow motion but records them very well I've got 39% Quality and 73% Signal strength. Most of the channels are 544x576i and movie channels 704x576i at low bit rates which I think is the same for Optus and Foxtel so would explain why so many complain about paytv picture quality. I use DVD Patcher 1.06 to fool TmpEnc DVD Author that they are 720x576i instead of 544x576i so I don't have to re-encode the recorded files.
