Camo252 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hey everyone, I'm looking at upgrading my 51cm TV to something a bit more....future proof, a 32" TV looks the right size for my room. Now i have a budget of $1250 at the max and would love some reccommendations of what to buy and where from. I've read through a couple of 30 Page Threads about the Aiko 81cm at Big W for $998 and the Acer at Officeworks and both look like good TV's, but both with their own little problems. I went to check out Officeworks Acer but they had sold out and told me they won't be getting any more stock in. Checked out Big W and the Aiko looks pretty good for the price, especially when on sale, but by the looks of it they only had the display model in stock. Now, would i be able to get any good quality Brand Name TVs for around $1250, I'm not worried about them having HD Tuners as i'll buy a HD STB in the future. Keep in mind I don't have any JB HiFis around, sadly, love that shop. I have WOW Sight and Sound, Harvey Normans, Chandlers, Retravision, The Good Guys, Kmart and Big W. I live in Mackay QLD if that helps. I'd like it to have the 1366x768 Resolution and HDMI HDCP, VGA, and Component inputs at the least. I'll be using a set of Z-5500s for the sound, so speaker quality isn't to much of a worry Will be used with an Xbox 360, HTPC, and maybe a DVD player. In the future i'll grab the HD DVD addon for the 360 and HD STB Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Camo Edit: Using Z-5500s for Audio
diesel Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Check out Target and Domayne - they have a 32" LG LCD (w/o DVB tuner) for $1199 Target catalogue

Thanks Camo Edit: Using Z-5500s for Audio I bought the Sony s-series 32" for $1293 at videopro last month (a bit over what you stated, but i never haggled or anything - was this price in the catalogue). I have it plugged straight into my pc via the vga, running 1366x768 and it's brilliant.... it doesn't have a HD tuner, but i had one in my pc anyway. Can't recommend it enough at that price. edit*... sorry, just read your location - but maybe you can use this info as a bargaining tool?

Well if the S series is even anything like it's bigger brother V series, there'd be no complaints with that panel.

CAP1 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 that's a good price, i've been thinking getting 32S200A as well, but just saw Hitachi 37" for less than $1600, don't know what to do now Yeahhh just back from few TV shop today. S series goes to $1250 in good guys auburn (NSW) I'm sure they can go lower. I'm also in market to replace my 7 yr old CRT TV. 32 or 37 is a good size. I'm leaning toward 37. Anyone have comment about Sharp : LC37PD5X --> piano black Hitachi: 9000 or 9800 --> seem different only number available for HDMI connection Budget is about $1,800 to $2,000. Sony seem they are good in pic but V series are about 2 yrs old. are they going to come with similar stuff in few years? Also with sony I can only get 32" instead 37". Any comment from the expert or owners are welcome wacko, where did you get Hitachi 37 less than 1600. which one is it? 9000 or 9800? - NOT inbuild tuner

Camo252 Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Well i think i'm pretty sold on the LG 32" 32LC2R (without the HD tuner built in). I did a shop around last friday, not really knowing what brands to look out, mainly being turned off by the prices. But i went into WOW and The good guys today to have another looksie and grab some catalogues. Wow, while they had heaps of tvs, none of them seemed setup very well, and one of them the colour was right off, everything had a green hue on it, so brown became green and purple became some far out pink color, good service but, had 4 sales guys come up and offer me help in the space of 4 minutes. Went into the good guys, looked around for a bit, they were all playing free to air SD Ch7, some kids game show, The LG really did seem to stand out nice, vibrant colours, great detail on the hosts suit. Then i got him to chuck on something HD, so he put the 1080P Blu-Ray LG Demo disc on, and pretty much decided there on the spot. The guy said he could do 1220 for it paying cash, It can be had for 1200 at target, but I don't know if they'll be able to help me with the warranty and what not. So i guess I'm gonna have to save up for another few weeks and go out and grab that. I might be able to get a better deal on it if i grab a HD STB with it, or maybe a wall mount, pending desk space. Oh, I did look for the Sony S series Bravias, but i just couldn't tell what bravia was what, they didn't have the model names on em, and the cheapest I could get a 32" Sony down to was a bit over $1400. Thanks everybody P.S. Keep on posting suggestions if you like, I'll be reading em. P.P.S. My main Enter key on my G15 decided to die this afternoon
spark1503561250 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 im in the same boat, that LG looks nice, anyone tried them or heard about them?

ejm Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I'm sort of in the same position as you. I am looking for a 32" LCD in the same price range for my consoles but I can not find anything good except the LG but I am sort of turned off of LG's after reading some things about them on here. So far what I have seen though the Sony S series are the best of the low end market but cost $200 more than I am willing to pay, hopefully they will drop the RRP soon.

Struggo Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 what about the samsung in the similar price range CHECK OUT, http://www.gameon.net.au/content/view/45/45/
ejm Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 what about the samsung in the similar price range Do you know the model number? I have seen one Samsung in the price range but it looks really ugly and plain in my opinion.
Camo252 Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 I'm not too sure about getting the LG, after spending all night researching it (what i could find anyway) i found that it'll only display a PC resolution of 1024x768, and seeing as how my main input for it will be a PC, it doesn't look promising. The only Samsung LCD I can find in the same price range is the 32" from Kmart for $1250 I think it was, and thats the New Zealand Product, and the only info i can find on it is the specs from the NZ site. I might try and take Dad's laptop down to the good guys tomorrow and see if i can hook it up to some screens, and let that help me me choose what i want. The Aiko is still a definite possibility. but I think I'd like the support I'd get from a brand name tv Can anybody give me a product number on the 32" S Series Bravia, there seem to be so many series, Sony is confusing
spark1503561250 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 (edited) the samsung can be had for around 1500 from JB Hifi - the model number is LA32R71BDX here it is on the samsung site http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/lcdtv/la32r71bd.asp What are peoples opinions on this? Edited April 27, 2007 by spark
Camo252 Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 nevermind about the sony product number, found it - KLV32S200 I'll go for a look this arvo/tomorrow on prices
kiwijunglist Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I'm looking for a 32" LCD for my bedroom and wanted some recommendations. I don't want to spend a lot so want to pick something up under $2,000 preferably around $1,600-1,800 incl cash discount. It will be connceted to the computer 60% of the time for watching divX movies. 20% of the time it will watch regular analogue TV. 20% of the time it will be hooked up to a progressive scan dvd player. Some of the models i've found on the web are; Toshiba 32WL66A NZD$1,600 @ LV Martin (TV Specs) Philips 32PF7321 NZD$1,800 @ Bond & Bond (TV Specs) Samsung LA32S71BX NZD$1,800 @ Bond & Bond / Noel leeming (TV Specs) Sharp LC32AW5X NZD$1,900 @ LV Martin Pansonic TX32LX60A NZD$2,000 @ Bond & Bond / Noel leeming / DSE I was thinking the toshiba sounded like a very cheap deal. NB - Unfortunately I can't get the same kick arse deals in New Zealand as you can in Australia, hence why the prices are a lot higher.
Camo252 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Posted April 29, 2007 Ok, so i took the laptop in and tested the LG out, worked great, bought it then and there, couldn't be happier. Managed to get the price down to $1150, from $1300, which was the sale price. My only gripe is that it stretches the SD tv to fit the screen, watchable, but slightly annoying, i'll grab a HD STB eventually to fix that. 360 over component looks spectacular, DVDs play to my expectations, and watching DIVX movies over it looks surprisingly good as well. I Highly recommend the LG 32LC2R to anyone, and getting it for only 150 bucks more then the Aiko, can't go wrong.
