Binxx Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I had posted this elsewhere on this forum but this looks like a more appropriate place. I contacted Samsung and they are adamant that this is a reception issue and to get a antenna person in to look at it. They claim upgrading the firmware will not resolve the issue and this is not a warranty issue and I need to pay for it. Tried explaining to them that 1. I have been using a Toshiba HD STB with a feed off the same aerial for 5+ years and have not had a single issue 2. Analogue reception is fine These issues are on this new TV ABC and C10 is where I get the pixelisation. An option for me would be to hook up my current HDSTB to a component input on the TV and I know it will be fine as I have used it for so many years. So how do I prove it is a issue with the built in HD tuner and not with the reception? Thanks
bellotv Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 You need to get readings of Bit Error Ratio (BER) both Channel BER and Post Viterbi BER on all Digital channels. You also need to get Channel power readings on all digital channels. You also need to have levels of ALL OTHER signals present at your TV outlet. This includes analog TV signals ,FM radio signals Pagers etc. To get these measurements you need to get an antenna installer/tech with a Digital meter that can measure these. Some meters such as the Unaohms will also count uncorrectable errors which occur as picture brake-up (incorrectly called pixallation) Once you have this you can have an accessment made as to whether the problem is reception or the receiver. Even though all the Digital parameters may measure perfectly, some decoders are unable to hold a stable picture when the wind blows the trees. Even though all the Digital parameters may be perfect ,some decoders don't like excessive analog or FM signals on the coax. All decoders have thier querks and some are better than others. First get some statistics on your signals
Binxx Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Appreciate your reply. I think the problem might have been fixed. It was a error on my part. After decommissioning the existing HD STB, which was doing the pass through of the antenna, I did not connect the antenna directly, now having done so, the problem seems to have been resolved.... No issues from last evenings viewing.. Thanks all
watchman Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Yes i have seen this problem also here in queensland. Most of the time it has been due to the fact that we all go & buy these new products & expect them to work in the same manner as we saw it on display in the retail outlet. Unfortunatly we forget that we still have the old RG59 cable run from the antenna throughout the home. Best that you also replace the existing cable with RG6,similar to that used by Austar & Foxtel installations. Yes, you may get good signal reading with the RG59, but RG6 you will eliminate any problems
