Foggy Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Whilst planning a forthcoming holiday, I got sick and tired of seeing insurance excess amounts around the $3000 mark unless you cough up another $25 a day to reduce it to $350. So I went searching around and discovered that many travel insurance packages include a rental car insurance excess cover, and without too much effort found one that will pay up to $3000 for the princely price of $29.... for the whole week! So the options for me were: $25 per day for 7 days ($175) and still have an excess of $350 $29 for travel insurance for 7 days and have an excess of $0, as well as a whole bunch of additional travel insurance benefits. Am I missing something here? Have other people done this in the past? Has anyone ever claimed insurance excess on their travel insurance?

Hi Foggy couple of years ago when booking a family holiday to sunny Qld I was asked if I wanted travel insurance which i declined. Travel agent then advised that it covered most of the excess for car hire which was $3000.I took out the travel insurance cost me just over $100 for a family of 4.Everytime since I always take out the travel insurance. Imagine dinging the car and having to pay $3k in excess Thankfully I did not have to claim. Oh and I believe that the rental cars insurance does not cover you if you go off the bitumen either!
