jpcam160581 Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Hi everyone, I was hoping someone can confirm if the LG 6100P HD STB can out put to multiple sources at the same time. Basically what I want to do is output the HD signal to my Viera via HDMI and output the same signal to my DVD/HDD recorder via AV at the same time. The theory being I can record the signal being output by STB instead of using the analogue tuner built into the DVD/HDD recorder. Does anyone know if this box or any other boxes are capable of this?
dvduser Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Pity you didn't RTFM OUTPUT CONNECTION AVAILABLE FORMATS COMPONENT VIDEO OUT 1080i/720p/576p/576i RGB OUT 1080i/720p/576p HDMI OUT 1080i/720p/576p VIDEO OUT All formats converted to 576i S-VIDEO OUT All formats converted to 576i
jpcam160581 Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 Thanks for the reply dvduser. Apologies for my vagueness but RTFM, I don't know what that means? Also are you saying it can output in all those formats simultaneously? Also, might be a little off topic, but what is the difference between 1080i and 1080p or 576i and 576p?

Gary_D Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I've never tried, as I don't have anything to plug it into. AFAIK it doesn't work but I'm usually wrong This part of the manual confirms my suspicions Display Format Setup1 Press DISPLAY FORMAT once on the front panel. The current output signal will appear in the display window. 2 Depending on the type of Monitor that the HDTV Receiver is connected to, press DISPLAY FORMAT or 1 / 2 repeatedly on the front panel to select desired output connector. (YPbPr, RGB, or HDMI.) Press MENU button if you wish to exit the display format setting. 3 Use SELECT on the front panel to confirm your output connector selection. The current output resolution will appear in the display window. 4 Depending on the type of Monitor that the HDTV Receiver is connected to, press DISPLAY FORMAT or 1 / 2 repeatedly on the front panel to select desired output resolution. (1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i) Press MENU button if you wish to return to the output connector setting mode. 5 Press (SELECT) on the front panel to confirm your output resolution selection. Display Format setup is finished.

I have the LG 6100p but have not tested this as of yet. I hooked up a Sony DSTHD500 for my parents a couple of days ago and this box outputs to multiple sources at the same time. I plugged component into there plasma and a composite to there DVD recorder. It outputs 1080i to the TV while sending the SD signal to the recorder and all works fine.
jpcam160581 Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Hi Jimbo, thanks for that information. Are you able to test if the LG works in the same fashion?

Have just installed one at my place and have not tried yet as I have just wasted a day actually getting the unit to work. PROBLEM: The bonehead who wrote the manual does not state that it is not unusuall to have "no signal" displayed on the front panel untill you have set the unit up. I spent an inordinate amount of time making sure that nothing had gone wrong with my reception as I could not even get the menu to come up on the screen because on page 16 of the manual in the notes section it states that you have to be in 576i format for the menu to come up on the TV. Beware of this catch, you can waste a lot of time.
PEEBS Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 If I remember correctly when using DVI/HDMI the composite signal is still there but the picture aspect is all screwed up.
bmorr Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 New to this so I don't know whether I'm permitted to change the direction of enquiry. Apologies in advance. Just purchased the LG 6100. Hooked up to my Pioneer 434 via HDMI. Excellent PQ but no audio. I can get audio if I also hook up red and white RCAs from the HD stb to the receiver. Any advice from the more knowlegable? Also, in order to access the HD signal, I have to ensure that the STB is switched off, then select the appropriate Input (3) on the revceiver (blank screen), then switch the STB on and I get video. This means that if I'm watching HD, then change input, I have to switch the stb off then on again to access it. Bit of a pain, actually. Is ther a fix?

Not too sure about the 434, but I believe the current Pioneers with 2 HDMI connectors have one fully configured for both video and audio and the other carries video only and the audio needs to be configured via the menu. This may not be true in your case, but worth checking.

I spoke to about 30 different 'experts' on this and got 30 different explanations - none of which were of help in resolving the issue. Have decided to return the HDMI cable for a refund ($80) and will use composite connections which, thankfully work a treat and all problems have been resolved. I can't detect any difference in PQ

I can't get past this to a menu to run the setup. Also have wasted lot of time checking signal all the way from aerial to box - all is OK. Can anyone shed any light???

Nova Phoenix Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Sounds like you have yet another shitty LG STB then deeballa. I saw this LG 6100p at the local The Good Guys store for $249. If it's proven by my local electrical reapir shop that the Philips DTR7200 is the problematic device, and not the Joytech switch, then I'll consider giving the LG HD-STB a try.

Certainly looks like it Nova The new STB produced no picture or menu signals via HDMI. I changed to component connection and Presto! picture/menu all appeared. After auto tuning PQ & audio chirping have improved/reduced but still present - it was also present during testing in the HN store. Signal strength is 75-80% so this is not the issue. I also have a Pana TX-26LXD600A with built in HD tuner running off the same aerial/signal with perfect PQ and audio. All indications are a bad LG STB - I will have to consider changing if it continues - perhaps Phillips 7200?
Miklos73 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I've got this box, just now in the mail. I thought I was getting the 5100p. I found there's no menu/subtitles etc when using a non 1080 output. I just hope the HDMI socket does output the menu options etc. Is there a way to fix the picture aspect ratio with the non 1080 outputs? I would like to record some shows in 16x9 with the 6100p. I'm also having a lot of trouble finding the user's manual for this STB online.
Johnnyboy7 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) I can't get it to go to 576i. I can flick through all the other options but can't see the menu to set it up. Any ideas? ______________ Fixed... Removed all the cabling and re-booted from scratch. The menu now shows up in all resolutions so why they hold it to 576i to begin with only LG knows. All working OK now. Sorry about the double post guys and gals. Edited February 2, 2009 by Johnnyboy7
