Ps3 Or Xbox 360 W/ Hd Dvd Player?

Recommended Posts

Well I'm about to push the credit limit just that little bit further and splurge on a PS3 or an Xbox 360, mainly for use as a BD/HDDVD player, but also because I would like to get into online gaming.

Any suggestions which console would be better in your opinions? (No, both is NOT financially viable at the moment! hehehe)

Only joking. The suggestion re movie exclusives is a good one - you also need to do a similar comparison with the games available/coming. Xbox live is the better thought out online service IMO, but it is an added cost and lag can be a problem for some when forced onto OS servers. Most are very happy with it.

Right now I would recommend a 360 over a PS3, as the game library is much more extensive. But if you are hanging out for Metal gear/gran turismo/final fantasy, then it has to be a PS3. Likewise, if it is Halo 3/mass effect/forza 2 that will float your boat, the 360 wins by default.

If it's mainly for HD movies, then look at the exclusives and let that be your guide.

Also, the PS3 is far quieter than the 360 in HT applications, and also has better support for hi-def sound formats ...

If you want to get serious on gaming, then the 360 is the hands down winner.

There are far more games, and the online experience is far more mature.

Not sure if that helps or not.

Andrew.

Which system has the more potential?

Which system is the most powerful? (XBOX was more powerful then the PS2, how about this time round?)

Which system has the better GFX? and what system will have the better GFX (if that makes any sense)

Anyone know the above??

If its for online gaming then look no further than the 360. Hands down the best online service in Xbox LIVE.

As for Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD... well there is plenty of info on these forums for that.

Cheapest place for the HD-DVD add-on in australia I've seen is dvdcrave.com and if you use xboxzone.com.au (like I do) there is a 5% discount coupon as well. Comes in at about $215 including postage.

dont discount metal gear and final fantasy coming out on 360. GT wont happen but my money is on the other two being on the 360 at some stage.

I would take your money on Metal Gear no worries. FF is trickier, as some FF titles are going cross platform, but I seriously doubt the "main" games will leave Sony.

Well I ended up buying the PS3 today. Why? Well I went into EB Games where they had it listed for $999.95. I told them about Gametraders in Perth city having them for $799.95. They confirmed this and told me they'd price match. I also brought in my old PS2 + 8 PS2 games + 3 Gamecube games.

After trade in and price match..... PS3 + blu-ray remote + component cables + motorstorm + resistance fall of man = $877.85

Too good to pass up
