Fly Free, Down Under

Our venerable agent in Oz, W. C. Wedderspoon, one of Velodyne's oldest distributors, has devised a novel way to promote and increase business, and to make Velodyne customers even happier with their purchase of the world's finest subwoofers.

The promotion is called "Fly Free With Velodyne", and is valid from 1st March to the 30th June, plus it is open to anyone over 18 years of age who buys ANY Velodyne subwoofer, and covers selected flights between most major cities in the country, all taxes and surcharges paid, so it costs the buyer, nothing to take a flight. All the buyer has to do is complete a Flight Claim Form available on line, or via mail, and select three preferences for destinations and travel dates, and a Travel Centre will call the buyer to complete the flight booking plus any other details. What could be easier than that, AND, it is on Quantas, Australia's national carrier.

Wedderspoon contracted this promotion with a specialist company that takes care of all the flight details, etc., and leaves them to concentrate on marketing and promoting this clever scheme. The first question most people ask is, "How can they afford to do it?" The answer is quite simple in that the extra business virtually pays for all costs involved, and it is not that expensive when all things are taken into consideration. They have given all their participating dealers "Boarding Passes" to help promote in store and also followed up with local and national press to "get the word out", for all to see.

With only three weeks or so into the promotion it is already proving to be very successful, and a well deserved reward for someone who has taken a bit of a risk to do something different, to get a potential buyer's attention.

Well done Lisa and Michael, Down Under.

Hi,

I seen this promo on the weekend, while out on the search for a new subwoofer. I have narrowed my choices down to either the Richtor Thor OR Velodyne CHT-10R... The free flight might just be the thing that tip things in Velodynes favor. So i can certainly see how this promo would be boosting sales when it comes down to a two horse race! I will have to audition both again however ... i dont think a sale can be made on just freebies alone!

Make sure you have a good play with the remote. Very handy for being able to add a bit more kick (pre-set eq) for watching movies, then at the push of a button hit the jazz/classical to bring it back to tight and the desired level for music.

My first sub was a CHT-10R and I loved the way you didn't have to muck about with the back of the sub or change levels in the AVR.

The CHT10R gets a really good rap over at the UK AV-Talk Forums . It would be my pick of the bunch..

Then again, I'm biased..

Hey Azz123,

The remote seems like a great idea. I dropped into HN on the way home from work and they had a SPL-800R in cherry for $1600 which is kind of tempting. Is there alot of difference between the CHT-10r range (offered $970) and the SPL range? I loved the compact size and styling of the SPL-800, not that the CHT is ugly.

As it was closing time i did'nt bother asking for a demo, might head back tomorrow and see if the extra $600 (approx) is worth it.
