getting close to retiring my old benq pe5120 and was looking at the mitsubishi hc1100 and a benq pe7700,both similiar in price but was wanting to hear everyones thoughts in here

Look for a second hand 8720 benq or if you can stretch a new 8720.

A far superior picture than the hc1100 or the pe7700.

PM me if you want answers.

Thanks

Ben

Interested i n your opinions on the Optoma HD70

Unfortunately I don't really have that much of an opinion on any of the Optomas. They've always been extremely overpriced in the Australian market and as such there's not much in the way of owner feedback.

I presume you've read Art's review of it:

HD70 Review

In the US market the HD70 is the natural competitor to the HD1000 (the US version of the HC1100).

If you want to find out info on the Optoma's, try AVS. They're very popular over there as they're priced competitvely in the US.

I think the price is very competative for a 720p projector

Price is $1900 new with a 3yr warranty and 1 yr on lamp from Australia distributor. You can get a grey import a few hundred cheaper but not covered by Australian approved importers warranty.

Actually, in terms of value for money with Australian warranty and 720p I find it hard to find anything better for the price, but as you say no one seems to mention them on this forum

Their price is competitive now. It wasn't up until very recently. This is simliar with the Benq8720. When it was 1st released it was priced out of the market. When the price dropped sub $5K it became very popular. Traditionally the Optomas have been overpriced by about 50% in Australia. It's good if they've rectified this but it's going to take time for people to even consider them since they've previously been such a rip off.

andy,

where abouts are you?

I was at lifestyle at north parramatta the other night(the one right next to dick smith power house) and they had a benq 7700 on display if you are interested, i had a look and for me the picture was very nice, but i aint one of those that would spend a huge amount of dollars just to get a smidgen better picture(to wich i might not even be able to tell myself).

They were after $2500.

Power house next door had a epson tw700 on display(another decent projector to me)- $2600.

Just thought if in sydney, you might want to know

"Very easy answer. HC1100. There have been way too many problems reported about the PE7700."

I can certainly concur with this!

Thats not a real conclusion.

From information I have BenQ sell approx 1500 projectors in Australia per month. Approx 20% of these are Home Theatre models. Whereas Mitsubishi lag behind somewhere near 400-500 per month of which mostly are data models.

With that many BenQ HT models in the market you will hear more about BenQ problems than Mitsubishi.

It is like all the "bad" stories you hear re Ford Falcon or Holden Commonbores compared to a Hyundai or a Kia.

My 2cents worth....

P.S You should be able to pickup a BenQ PE7700 for $1900 easily.

You can get a hc1100 delivered for around $1650 and some quote $1700 from stores which easily beats the problematic pe7700.

I doubt that many pe7700s have been sold let alone per month here in Australia and I have seen a lot of refurb models for sale which means there have been lots of returns.

Where do you get your stats from anyway? I'd be interested to see how many of what brands sell per month.

You would be surprised how many PE7700 are sold on a monthly basis....... Also BenQ have 3 HT models - W100, PE7700 & PE8720.

The figures are published within the industry on a quarterly basis for all brands sold in Aust. I will dig up the last figures I have seen but expect a new report for the 1st qtr 2007.

Will keep you posted.
