Got my first set top box Digicrystal HDT-9500 and using HDMI cable into my AVR and then HDMI from AVR to 32inch LDC TV.

Works great, picture quality is fine only problem is every 20 seconds or so the sound drops out for a second.

I'm not sure if it is the AVR's fault (doubt it, as it's a brand new Pio VSX-2) or the HD reception through the HD box. Or I am just a noob and haven't set the right settings.

Any advice to fix this irritating problem would be great.

Hey. I haven't experienced this with my 9500, but I have it going straight into my TV via HDMI. Every once in a while, sound seems to drop off altogether (3-4 times since I got in in Feb). To fix this, I need to switch off the power in the back. Once I turn it back on and it resets itself, it works fine.

Have you tried connecting straight to the TV from the STB? At least it might help ascertain if the problem is the STB or the AVR.

Hey guys, ive had my 9500 for a month now, havent had any problems at all with the sound dropping out or off, its plugged into my yamaha surround, the only complaint it that the sound seems softer, have to turn it up to almost full volume to hear anything, (could be my industrial deafness though) other than that i find it a great unit for the price.

Did anyone find a fix for this? Mine is doing the same thing. Dropouts through HDMI and much lower volume.

Also, the reception appears to be somewhat worse than the built-in tuner in my PX7A.

i don't believe it, i read about this problem a couple of hrs ago and i thought it great that my new 9500 doesn't have this problem, so i thought.

about half an hr back i was watching the tele, i switched channels and then NO sound!!

it remained off for around 30 seconds i suppose, i just kept switching channels til it came back on.

god i hope its a one-off.

Well, I took mine back for a replacement. On the bright side the reception seems to be somewhat improved. On the not so bright side the audio through the HDMI input still drops out for a second or so every 10 seconds.

There is no problem when the audio is sent via the optical output.

I can't decide whether to try a 3rd unit, try for a full refund or just live with it. It could be a receiver thing I suppose.
