Hey guys,

I need a high quality HDMI cable before monday that is at least 8 metres long.

Anyone recommend any specific home theatre stores in Melbourne where I could pick one up?

So far the 2 main brands (entry level) HDMI 10 metre cables that most places stock are Quartz Diamond (~$170-199) and Max Cable (~$249-299)

Recommended brands at this length are Key Digital, Audioquest and Wireworld ($300+) but they can't be ordered before Tuesday.

Anyway, probably more helpful if you can list any audio-visual stores you know about and I can contact them myself

Thanks guys

thanks richard, it would be perfect as my brother is coming down from sydney before then but they are closed on the weekend. I need it by monday afternoon as it needs to go into the ceiling before everything gets plastered.

Anyway do you know what sort of prices they charge?

Price doesn't matter (to a certain point  ). So as long as someplace has a good quality reputable 8-10m cable in stock, I will go pick it up.

Cheers

David

p.s. so far I have tried Tivoli Hifi, Clef Hifi, JB Hifi, Goodguys, Audio Video Excellence, Big Picture People, AVLight and Livingstone Audio but no success.

thanks Norpus, those are the guys that sell on eBay, so you would recommend them?

They are quite cheap, may just go with one of those and get some high quality component cables also

try some audio dealers locally who sell the stuff. have seen it in tivoli audio in camberwell. try soem other dealers like e-home in carnegie etc.

if desparate for something best is to ring aroudn the stores. for 8m lengths you do need somethgi nof quality the likes of kordz shown by the guys at the least.

Thanks for all the help guys, I just went to pick up a Kordz Diamond 10m cable for $230. Seems good enough (lets hope).

Any suggestions on the best place to get component cables from?

Now get back in the car and go to the place you got the Kordz hdmi cable from

That's certainly a safe bet! I got my HDMI cable from them a coupe years back, and recently bought off a forum member another one of their products and it would appear that they don't muck around. I'd be confident in buying from them....(ie if they are the same mob that distribute to htcustomcables)

just had a quick look at the cinewave site....sorry if I was being misleading, I was refering to these http://www.htcustomcables.com/component.htm

Ooops. Sorry. Just saw that you decided on the Kordz. I won't tell you what I was originally going to about the 10m cables at Dick Smith then. htcustomcables are pretty reasonable for component cables. I picked up one from there.

Not in the market myself but just curious if anyone has been game enough to try the 10m HDMI cable from MSY for $35? Given that it's a digital signal I figure it should either work perfectly or give noticeably dodgy results.

Anyway if anyone is feeling adventurous...

If it was 1, 2 or 3 metres I wouldn't mind giving it a try but fact is anything over 5 metres is going to have a loss in quality. I have seen it first hand, you could get anything from streaking to noise, not a risk I'm willing to take when this cable will be plastered into my ceiling...

Thanks again to the rest of you that helped

Might go looking for some component cable on Monday.

Fact is over 5m it is recomended to use a repeater. Jaycar have both 10m hdmi and repeaters available.

Repeater? Whats that? How does it work? I run 2x15m and don't have "repeaters" on either (Kordz). Works perfectly.

Not having a dig - I've just never heard of them and am curious...

Signal Enhancement feature allows you to improve signal quality after long distance transmission

Thanx for that mate, learn something new every day!

What sort of distance is this recommended for? I see it extends approx 12m, but at what length should you start using them? I assume I am right on the borderline having a 15m then.

Sorry for going a little off topic...

I'm using thier DVI switcher - HDSTB & DVD via 1mtr flylead -> Switch -> PJ via 10mtr DVI - works a treat, the signal actually seems better than when I went direct to the pj from the DVD

Cheers for that info, will definitely keep it in mind if I get another HDMI source then!
