dunnas Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Obviously the footy show pointing out yesterday that channel 7 was showing a few minutes of ads after goals didn't seem to worry the footy team at channel 7 too much. In tonights telecast, early in the last 1/4 richmond kicked a goal to bring it back to 19 points. They did the usual stupid talk for 30 seconds first before going to an ad and then came back from the ad with the doggies 25 points up and talking about how coony had just kicked his second goal for the game. In case anybody else saw this and thought they were going crazy you can rest assured you're not. I rewound the game with my PVR to double check I didn't actually take 2 minutes longer than I though to walk the 10m to the fridge to get another beer. It really blows the mind how far 7 is willing to go to screw up their footy coverage.
Eth Nick Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 The number of ads is really shocking & another reason why i'm watching less footy on Seven this year. Can't believe they missed a goal...
dunnas Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Being a st kilda supporter I thought it was a very good how many friday (and thurday) night games the saints had been getting these days. Enter channel 7 and it now is looking like a very bad thing.
XR6T4ME Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I noticed that and thought it was a graphics glitch with the score but it never corrected. It is bloody annoying when a goal is scored, they show the replay in detail then you become eager to see the outcome of the next bounce in anticipation of a reply. What happens next ??? - they go to a commercial break or two. Not the best especially if they are in the last 5-10mins of the 4th qtr!

Thank god in the ACT we get uninterrupted and live broadcast of the game on Main Event - too bad about the picture quality though
wheelz Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 I had forgotten how annoying Bruce was, last night i was reminded.
Sambo90 Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 That's terrible if they are actually cutting any of the game out. It should be a goal kicked, then go straight to a 15 second ad break, then the light flashes to tell the umpires they are back for the break and they bounce. I haven't been watching much of seven's friday night coverage but all this is making me not want to ever watch it.

Sambo90 Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Its a 30sec ad break after a goal Still should be enough time to get the ad in before play starts again.
manian Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 The umpires are supposed to wait for the broadcaster's light to come on before re-starting play (within reason of course). So, I suppose one of two things has happened :- 1. The umpires got sick of waiting for the light and just bounced the ball. or 2. Seven turned the broadcast light back on, despite still being in an advert break. When Ten first got the rights, their advert breaks were going beyond the designated 30 seconds. The AFL were going to instruct the umpires to ignore the light if Ten didn't reduce the after goal delay. Nothing ever came of this as Ten seems to have adhered to the 30 second delay ever since.

Actually the umpires have to wait for the light to flash or they get hammered after the game. No light no bounce. Even if a free kick is awarded they have to wait for the light. Now 7 run the normal 30 sec duration after each goal, the AFL monitor this. What clearly has happened is the Tape Operator back at the studio has stuffed up royal when they prepped the game and marked the segment out after one goal and the next segment in after the following goal. 7 extend the add breaks after goal which is easily done when its a replay, they even do the same thing for Rugby Union when its a live game by time slipping. If it happened how you said they would have come back in the middle of play not after the next goal.
manian Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Yes, I see. That makes much more sense. I forgot that most of the country gets these on delay. Southern Cross, even after all this time, still airs all games live and interruption free. It will be interesting what they do to the late night replay on Sunday, though.
McDigital Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 G'day, At the moment, the Melbourne v Fremantle match is on. After every goal scored, they seem to be playing the 30secs of replay, then putting the game on pause, while a 30sec ad comes on, then re-commence the game from where they left off. They're delaying the match by 30secs everytime. How would they go in a LIVE situation if they played it into Melbourne?
MattWinter Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Live football is something channel 7 will never have to worry about...

They do that all the time for Rugby Union Internationals as there is no gap to put a break in, its technically really easy to do. They usually come back to realtime at the breaks

I was listening to the Radio commentary and the delay was constant (~2 seconds)
