I can think of two guys. So who is it going to be? Ben
JoshH Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I am looking for two volenteers AKA JUDGES to evaluate the winning screen shots. I can think of two guys. So who is it going to be?Ben Why not.. I'll stick my hand up for it if you wish. What criteria are they to be judged? I thinbk the criteria would need to be clear so that everyone understood how they are to be judged.
Maverick Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Obviously whomever judges cannot participate so it would be down to a couple of people that I could think of, Preacher would be one likely candidate if he had the time and maybe MarkH or Alebonau if they had the time. Worx would be a good choice and he wants to do it too.
c912039 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Would Worx and The Preacher be truely impartial judges? Neither of them would probably pick any winners as: there are no CRTs in the comp there are no DLPs in the comp (just joking guys)... Actually, I would think that both are very well qualified to be impartial judges. Regards
c912039 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 By the way, I hope the comp. wont close, until all of us manage to get deliveries of our HD1s... Apparently, mine wont turn up until at least mid-May Regards David

Regards I agree with those two fine choices pity I don't have a working digital atm, someone left the sony charger at some o/s hotel didn't they... doh! I doubt whether a poor old digital can capture the essence ofthese images properly anyway. But it'd be fun trying. A couple of scenes from Dune would rate up there for starters
The_Preacher1973 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I am looking for two volunteer's AKA JUDGES to evaluate the winning screen shots. I can think of two guys. So who is it going to be?Ben I'd be flatterred to do it. Along with Worx I think that would give us a nice diverse judging team - a qualified professional and an entusiastic amateur. I'd have to do it after hours at work though as all I've got at home is an LCD monitor. Not exactly going to do justice to those lovely blacks the JVC is capable of. At work I can use one of our professional Trinitron CRT flatscreens that we use for CAD. The only calibration I'll be able to do though is using Display Mate unless anyone has any other suggestions. One other suggestion. Either we need two categories - film and CGI - or we need to limit it to film. There's no way I want to be judging a CGI screenshot against a film based one.
benthx Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Film based material. CGI is too artificial, but all films do have a degree of CGI content. Judges will take the level of CGI content in any particular screen shot into consideration. Nothing like Shrek etc..... The best part of this exercise it helps us learn how to take screen shots and learnt how to use our expensive digital cameras. Ben

benthx Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Ben, any restrictions on file size, resolution, file type (eg raw vs mpeg) or cropping, etc.Cheers My IT guy will address that and post on the site. ' Now for the Judges or the 'panel'. THE PREACHER 1973, JUS and WORX A4 Unfortunately the judges are unable to enter themselves. Thanks Ben

THE PREACHER 1973, JUS and WORX A4 Unfortunately the judges are unable to enter themselves. Thanks Ben Thats a shame for Jus, he should be a contestant and not a judge OK if comp closes today, I'll win then if he can't compete (noone else may have theirs yet apart from him)
benthx Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 I heard JUS had a sister. Ok guys the full details for the competition are now up on the website. Happy snappy. Ben
Maverick Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I heard JUS had a sister. Ok guys the full details for the competition are now up on the website. Happy snappy. Ben Ben, Just had a look at your website but nothing seems to be working as all the menu selections are linked to the same static page of banners which are not linked to anything. Could not find any reference to the comp.

Maverick Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 click on that animated competition banner at the top of the page Matt.G This work PC I am using must be configured to block advertising as I do not see any animated banner, sorry. Most likely why the page of banners is static as well.
mgoldsmith Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 This work PC I am using must be configured to block advertising as I do not see any animated banner, sorry. Most likely why the page of banners is static as well. might be a file size restriction thingy as that banner is just simple animated gif, nothing fancy at all. there's a regular textual link on the front page now which you should be able to click on for access. Matt.G
benthx Posted April 21, 2007 Author Posted April 21, 2007 Mav The competition link works. But you are correct the other sub menus do go to the static page. The data is being collated and uploaded a bit at a time. Please be patient. Appart from that anyone can email me re questions. But I gather that many can ascertain what I carry. So get your digital camera ready and charged up. I look forward to seeing your winning screen shot Thanks Ben
Foggy Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Can I enter my dodgy screenshots from our preview session?! This competition is a great promotion Ben, and from what I can tell so far, it embodies the spirit of what the projectorgeeks concept is all about. Great job and I hope the new venture goes well.
AndrewW Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Hey Ben, Can't wait to see the entries for the competition. Beware the "screenshot nazis" who are bound to come in here saying that it is impossible to compare two setups using screenshots unless you spend millions of dollars and do it in a controlled lab ... btw, there is a typo on the competition entry page, "most sort after" should be "most sought after" Sorry for being pedantic Cheers, Andrew. PS: I'm jealous as all buggery.

PS: I'm jealous as all buggery. Thanks for pointing that out. I will get the IT guy to correct it. Its meant to be a bit of fun. Hey most of us are geeky anyway. You did get your HD1 yet? Ben
AndrewW Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 You did get your HD1 yet? No, wasn't part of the group buy. Would only have been able to take part if the group buy came with a bonus divorce settlement I'm very jealous of all you guys that did take part though, from what I've seen it looks awesome. Andrew.
norpus Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Would only have been able to take part if the group buy came with a bonus divorce settlement Hehehe. I think that was bundled with the 'with stewart screen' option - there is still a chance for me then
norpus Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 OK, here's a snapshot of what you can expect for the first entry http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&...st&p=649717
