Guest Conifer Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I've been thinking while the dollar is good of ordering a HD DVD player Is it worth it, or does and up equaling the same amount? I'm sick of waiting for the next model HD-DVD player with HD DolbyD on board. Since castel no longer do Toshiba. Hope I'm not reposting
50mxe20 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 There was a Group Buy going around last week. It may have closed but I saw one post today that suggested it might not be too late. Looked like a pretty good deal to me and i was sorely tempted but family issues are not quite right so I had to bail.

Hope I'm not reposting Well a HD-XA2 from the US is roughly $823 ($1016 Aus) + 10% Import Duty if you get taxed. A HD-XE1 from here is not that much more than that. If you would like to know where to get a good price on the XE1 drop me a PM.
AndrewW Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 A HD-XE1 from here is not that much more than that. Really ? I thought the RRP was $1599 ? Andrew.
AndrewW Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Yeah it is mate but they can be had for about $1300 depending on your negotiating skills Interesting, didn't think we'd see that sort of discounting already. Andrew.
Drizt Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Are the box movers carrying the 'HD-XA2' in aus yet?
Hydrology Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Are the box movers carrying the 'HD-XA2' in aus yet? Are the box movers even carrying the cheaper model yet???
Spero D. Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Though I can't say where I still got under that by a few dollars Beat me to it though still waiting for the players to ship here in Australia
Guest Conifer Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 because I was thinking of going for this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOSHIBA-HD-XA2-HD-D...VQQcmdZViewItem It's around $790.00aus
dyates69 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I just picked up an XA2 from Amazon at a great price. Unfortunately have been stung on the mail forwarding at around $275 just for shipping (lots of hidden charges with usa2me) but will still end up landing the unit for around $900.

Can you give a breakdown of those costs for those considering using usa2me?
dyates69 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Can you give a breakdown of those costs for those considering using usa2me? Yeah. It was US$23 to join the bronze plan. Then (from memory) US$175 for the postage based on 25lb's. It's only 19lb's packed but they have a hidden charge based on cubic weight, rather than real weight. Then there was a ~US$20 something surcharge (again hidden until I commited) for fuel costs!? Also a ~US$10 charge for something else I can't recall now. Basically, I expected to pay about US$140 for the shipping ($29.95 for the first pound, then $5.95 for each remaining pound) as stated on their website. Instead I paid US$203 plus the $23 to join the plan. Bit rude. They also tell you about the form 1583 requirement AFTER you already pay the joining fee. A little devious this mob, and based on their hidden charges and policies I can't recommend them. They should be upfront to allow people to make an informed decision. ShopTheStates were free (as you know), and I seem to recall only paying about US$140 for shipping my A1, which was a lot heavier than the XA2. As a side note, Amazon were brilliant. I paid US$579 for the player including free delivery in the US, then a week or so later they reimbursed me a further US$44 because their website price had dropped. Try getting that service in Australia!

Try getting that service in Australia! Yep amazon rock. You have to request it, but I had the price difference refunded on 3 BDs after the price dropped in their 50% off sale. This was about 2 weeks after my order. Money was back on my card within 48 hours too Cheers, Andrew.
