Prime Afl

G'day,

My thoughts exactly, I've always wondered why, as a regional broadcaster, Prime couldn't show games live.

I've had a look at the possabilities, but they dont compramise for people in Mildura. What I looked at was transport by train from each Victorian town to Melbourne for a game of footy, And it seems Mildura residents only have buses to Swan Hill then a train to Melbourne. It would take all day to see a game live.

So I've got no idea why, at least Prime in Mildura, dont take Friday Night games live. There should be something for those living in Far East Gippsland as well as Far Western Victoria. Even Wagga Wagga has a one hour delay on Friday Nights. It just doesn't make sense

In the past, I've seen Prime in Mildura break away from the rest of the state to broadcast a different movie on a Saturday night, so it's a LOCAL decision in the Mildura buildings that they are following Seven in Melbourne (unless anyone else can confirm it's Seven telling them to show it when they do in Melbourne)

I've always wondered why it takes a Public Holiday or the Finals series before Southern Cross Ten in Victoria goes live with the footy while Melbourne gets a delay as well

G'day,

A plane is something I havent really put much research into. Is it REX airlines there? Are the fares affordable for the typical footy fan to go to a footy match every week?

Is it enough for Prime to keep delayed coverage on TV?

G'day,

I disagree, until I walk into the Prime Mildura building, and the staff mentions that they're dictated by Seven in Melbourne with their footy broadcasts, Then I dont believe that they are, because quite simply over in WA, When Metro stations had a delay on a match, the Regional stations would have it live, Across the whole state that is, not just a small part of it

I know there's size differences between Victoria and WA, But if metro stations have a delayed telecast of a match that CAN be shown live into regional areas, They should make it the WHOLE state, except for metro areas. Great example by WIN in Mildura by playing the Channel 10 match LIVE on Saturday nights, even if its Delayed in Melbourne and everywhere else in Victoria.

Friday nights can easily be catered for, by rescheduling Better Homes & Gardens to a later time.

7:30 AFL LIVE

10:30 BH&G

11:30 Resume network

Saturdays seem to be strange at the moment for WIN, I dont know what benefit it is to have a match on the same delay as the rest of Victoria.

Sundays, Prime could easily go along with Tasmanian programming (or similar)

12pm Midday movie

2pm AFL LIVE

5pm Something like Coxy's Big Break

The thing is that, The only Live match Victoria will see from Seven and Prime, will come up in a couple of weeks time when a Friday night match is played in Subiaco, at 8:40pm AEST between Fremantle and St. Kilda on the 25th of May

(Bit off topic) Both REX and QANTAS fly in and out of Mildura everyday of the week. Between the two airlines I think there are at least ten flights departing each day. Fare prices can be reasonable if you book in advance. One of the airlines had an $89 special recently. The point is you can get to Melbourne quicker from Mildura (one hour flight) than say Bendigo.

  • 5 weeks later...

You'll find that across regional Victoria there is a restriction on live AFL on Saturday afternoons at least due to an arrangement with the Victoria Country Football League in order to encourage people to attend local games in their towns. This is especially true of Saturday afternoons and is the reason why Monday and other public holiday games are allowed to be shown live on SC10.

As for Friday nights there really is no excuse as of yet that I know of. The above reason is also why even interstate games on Saturday afternoons are also not shown live in regional Victoria.
