Doesn't the PS3 have some sort of screen save mode? I know my 360 dimms to 50% brightness after about 10 mins of inactivity. If theres some similar function I wouldn't stress over it.

Theres a lot of scare about consoles with plasmas, but really when do you EVER have a static image in a game for that long to cause burn in. car games and their speedos onscreen are usually mentioned, but think about it, in a car game how long does any given race last? 2-3 mins max and your back in the garage or wherever.

I can't think of any game that has a permanent fixed image onsreen that isnt regularly changed by going in / out of menus etc

I have an x-box and you can be in a game of (for example) Halo for hours with the stat screen showing up the whole time.

Having said that Burn In using consoles isn't really a problem anymore. My screen (Which is last generation) suffers no burn in at all. Image Retention, yes, but no Burn In.

Just make sure you run it in for the first couple of hundred hours and you'll be fine.

I have a 50"PX panasonic and whether it's me or the kids playing PS2 for hours on end, I have not had any screen burn or "image retention".

As mentioned above, most screens change after 3-5mins anyway.

im also looking at getting the panasonic 42" viera plasma probably in the next month or so and probably a PS3 next year sometime , so what everyones basically saying is if i run it in for a few hindred hours first which i will do seeing as i will have the plasma for a year before a PS3 it should be fine with the whole "burn in issue"

also while im on the subjec is there any other tv's out there that i should look at with a budget of $1500?

cheers shane
