Since according to you LCD’s are not much good with Foxtel, and you have said you watch a lot of Foxtel, so why are you interested in an LCD?

I assume it must be for gaming.

It appears that just about everyone on this forum except me is into gaming.

90% of my viewing is Foxtel-Austar, and I have not played a game of any kind this century. Maybe that’s why I have little time for LCD’s. :D

ditto .... no games and around 90% fox, but I have an eleven year old that has every game console going and now has his own Samsung lcd.

I've just purchased Dell 24" and 30" lcd's for my cad work and they'll probably never have a game played on them.

Foxtel was okay initially, but now it just seems like repeat after repeat....granted it still has it's moments, but I'm losing interest fast.

Plus I have weird interests, and Foxtel generally doesn't screen much of what I like, nor do they make it easy for me to even find what I want.

Foxtel was very ordinary on a 40in 720p LCD, so it might be worse on larger higher res screens, but then again, it might depend on how effective the dynamic CR is with these newer models.

Even though I'm not going to buy any 2006 LCD, the 07 models might get my dosh, and yes, I will use "them" for games among other things.

I think using a 26in LCD TV as my main PC monitor+ 32-40in HDTV LCD for bluray/PS3 and the WOW factor make sense these days.

I'd like to have both LCD's on my PC desk, so all other tech are too big.

For a 32-40” display to have “Wow” factor you would need to put it on your desk so you can sit close enough to it.

Even at 2 meters a 40” is too small for 1080 content, and for a 32” you would need to sit so close you could reach out and touch the screen.

We have an 86cm as a second TV, it is viewed from less then 2 meters and its way to small. No “Wow” factor at all.

I often find myself leaning in to 1.5 meters just to get some sense of a big screen immersion, but it just does not work.

It would seem you have not had Foxtel very long as only a month ago you where very keen on it, but now you say you are sick of the content.

I have had Foxtel-Austar for 7 years now and would not be without it, as it still makes up 90% of my viewing. HD sources take up 8%, DVD’s 1% and free to air 1%.

I used to watch more DVD’s, but now generally see it on Foxtel-Austar first and if it’s any good I get a 1080 HD version.

I find Foxtel-Austa looks very acceptable on my 70” SXRD at 3 meters and very good at greater distances, depending on the channel.

It all goes to show how individual needs and usage differ significantly. One size does not fit all.

The new dynamically backlit LCD’s look like they will be a lot better then current models, but it will depend on implementation.

Problems like posterization, artificial looking colour and a general unnatural digital presentation will likely remain.

I think that sums it up+ you don't play games,....... so someone like me can gain value from a 40 as an all rounder.

I will consider a 720p 40{if Samsung are making them}, but it will most likely have a lower CR, and that might be untolerable.

Some websites believe that the new 1080p Samsung DLP is the best HDTV in the world atm....even beating the SXRD, so I've got my eye on one of those long-term.

I would have thought that playing games on a massive 1080p TV with fast response time like the SXRD, would be every gamers dream.

If you want to put it on your desk or connect an Xbox360 at 1080p via component ( a non standard connection know one ever heard of before MS decided to use it) then your out of luck.

As for the Sammy DLP’s, I have heard good things about them as well. But since we don’t get them hear and, probably never will I will never know first hand.

When UMR, a highly respected ISF calibration professional who frequents AVS Forum, swaps his near new 1080p Sammy DLP for an SXRD XBR2, you have to wonder.

I've yet to see any response time issues with any 2006 LCD/LCD TV....but that's just me.

Btw, you're talking to someone whose been gaming on a 19in CRT for the past 5 yrs, LOLOL.

Ole mate UMR may have rejected the extreme brightness of the DLP....not sure.
