llsTixll Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi guys This is probably a stupid question but when attaching a PC/laptop to a 1366 x 768 display and the display setting is set to 1280 x 720 on the PC, does it simply get scaled and still look right? Like when an XBOX360 is put in 720p? For a PC, is 1280 x 720 the best setting when connected to a 1366 x 768 display or should it be set to 1920 x 1080? I'm getting a 40" Sammy or Sony LCD soon (not a 1920 x 1080 - can't afford it!) and just want to check they'll be versatile enough to handle a PC. Thanks for the help. Cheers

Cheers Yes, it should get scaled and look right (both are correct aspect ratio- 16:9) If possible it's better to drive the panel at it's native resolution of 1366x768.....this is sometimes impossible and depends on what the panel will acept. Search the web to ensure your chosen model will do what you want with respect to PC input.......better to be well informed BEFORE the purchase. Cheers.......Tex.

Cheers I bought the 32" sony bravia s-series (didn't need the HD tuner, have that in the pc already) and if you plug the VGA plug in the back, set it to 1368x768 - expect to be amazed. if you set it to another resolution, i'm not 100% certain it will look any good. It should, but it doesnt'. Originally my pc had a 1280x1024 (original monitor was a standard 1.33 size) and when i first plugged in the s-series before changing the resolution on my video card to the native res of the screen, it looked like sh1te. The scaler changed the screen size, but it was blurry and worse - it had random combing interference through it. i.e. every now and then a line was out of sync with the others.. looked awful. So.. long story short - not sure if it was just my experience, but other resolutions didn't agree with the s-series. Put it at native res though, it's incredible. By the way, just an FYI for other people using this tv as a monitor, in theory dvi-->hdmi should work better, as it's digital to digital. But it doesn't. VGA is nearly perfect (VERY slight blurring, almost undetectable), but the DVI_HDMI solution which i thought i'd try as an experiment was a complete disaster. the s-series doesn't have a 1:1 mapping selection, so trying to get the timings right on powerstrip just wasn't worth it. it looked vile.
