I have this config

Config A1rS1 - Panasonic DMR-EX75

1. Foxtel's (tv)Scart output >---(Scart to Component & Audio cable)---> TV's Component & Audio inputs

2. Foxtel's (video)Scart <---(Scart to Scart cable)----> DVD Recorder's Scart (using Composite)(AV2 Panasonic)

3. DVD Recorder's HDMI output >---(HDMI cable)---> TV's HDMI input

So I watch foxtel on the tv's component1 and dvd on hdmi

When I use the DVD but switch the tv over to foxtel (Component1) there is "NO SIGNAL' . If i press stop on the dvd the signal returns. How/why does this happen? You might be wondering why I would watch a dvd and switch channels, theres numerous reasons but one simple one is that if you do a normal speed copy from HDD to DVD it displays it onscreen and my foxtel component1 on the tv gets no signal.

If I unplug the scart from the panasonic which is supposed to be input only, foxtel signal returns.

I think you will find this is what is happening:-

1. When you play a DVD your DVD recorder is putting a signal on pin 8 of the scart saying look at me I am displaying something.

2. Your Foxtel box says ok I will passthrough what your displaying (from the video in on VCR scart to TV scart video out).

3. If your TV was connected using composite video from the TV scart you would see the DVD on your TV but you are using component and won't get anything as the Foxtel STB doesn't convert composite(VCR scart in) to component(TV scart out), it just passes through the signals.

Solutions:-

EDIT: 0. Press the Foxtel button on the Foxtel remote (I originally left out this solution assuming it was tried)

1. Try AV1

OR 2. Don't use a scart to scart cable

OR 3. Disconnect pin8

OR 4. Your DVD recorder might have a menu setting to turn this feature off (doubt it)(maybe try changing output setting for AV1 will stop it)

PS AV2 on Panasonic EX-75 is input and output(composite).

Great explaation. I might even connect TV to foxtel with scart- composite to confirm this. Have to work out a way of disabling pin 8 without destroying it. I'll let you know what happens.

Reporting back that a small piece of electrical tape covering pin 8 on the scart cable has indeed solved this. Thanks! You're a legend.

I hope that somebody somewhere does a search for this problem

Cheers

For anyone else out there, I have tried this and found it didn't work. Putting electrical tape on pin 8 works, although fiddly
