I was totally shocked by the price that I forgot to check whether it had an inbuilt HD tuner (which it probably did)

For the name, I was impressed with the picture quality

Was there again today - it does include a HD tuner

I cant find links for any Soniq products! Does JB Hi-Fi have exclusive importing rights?

I was considering the 32" version of one of these Soniq sets, but got an acer 32" for a good price (although) I already want a bigger set :D . I would have liked the 42" version of the Soniq but figured the price would have been around $3000-$3300 given the fact that it has an inbuilt hd tuner and is a 1920x1080 screen.

Anyway linkage to the product page (which also has a manual for the set)

http://www.soniqav.com/QASA.php?mdm=8a21f2...bb09b4314148046

According to the product page and manual the set supports 1080P at 50/60Hz on various inputs including hdmi, component and vga(60Hz). The set also has 2x hdmi inputs, 2x component inputs along with the hd tuner so pretty good connectivity options as well.

Anyone got any experience with Soniq products? Who's the importer and how good's their customer service? Will parts still be available in a couple of years?

It's great to get a bargain, but I wonder about the possible downside.

JB hifi is the importer I believe.

I have the oringal LCDTV32 from Soniq (the samsung panel one), bought it from JB as soon as it came out. I have had no problems with it at all. I though I did but it turned out to be my set top box.

I run my Xbox360 through VGA at native res and foxtel through svideo, and both look great, esp the Xbox360.

The only fault I have against the 32" I got was that it had two component inputs, one supported HD (but not SD) and the other supported SD (but not HD). Really stupid IMO. Though this has been fixed in the 40" model and I believe also this 42" model.. Though this caused me to switch my xbox 360 to VGA (which craps all over the component quality anyway), so I am not too worried.

Looking in store the picture quality of this 42" is amazing, definately the best Soniq to date. Stomps all over the 40" model which was IMO worse than my 32".

Currently trying to stop myself spending on this set... won;t last, I will haev it soon!

P.S. to help people searching the model is QSL420T

Huh, huh.

Went to the local JB and the "dude" said: "never heard of it"...ie the 1080 Soniq LCD. Furthermore, he advised not to buy them till 2 years down the track...Dud...

i noticed in todays 9-5 (first page) betta electrical has a whole heap of native 1980X1080 42" screens, all going under $4k

it'd seem to me that two things have happened

a) factories are producing enough of a surplus of last gen 1080p sets that they're finally filtering down to us for a resonable price

 sometime in the next 3-6 months a whole new type of display technology, cheaper, native at 1080p, with better PQ will be launched.

Manufacturers are now dumping their wares in a hope of moving the stock before its undercut by these new technology

I think he was implying that the sales droid was a dud.

Thanks Andrew for the explanation.

When he told me to wait for 2-3 more years, I think he was implying that the Soniq brand is 2-3 years behind in the tech specs.

Staying off topic for a minute, this GPS runs Whereis/Sensis maps like most big names here and runs Destinator software. Mate at work and his wife haven't got lost yet. Bargain as far as he's concerned.

Getting close to the topic, the JB drone must have thought you might fork out $4000 to send you away from a $2500 unit.

After contacting Quality IT Electronics (the importers of Soniq products) & getting them to contact the manufacturer in China, the manufacturer has advised that their claimed response time of 6.5ms is based on Grey To Grey. If this was true it would be pretty impressive.

$1299 (with HD Tuner)

$897 (without)

at JB Hifi

Thank you very much, I will go and check them out tomorrow. Hopefully they are good for gaming as it will only be used for gaming.

I just purchased the 32" soniq on Thursday and I'm already having problems.

I have it hooked up to my PS3 using HDMI.

The 3 problems I'm having are:

1. The TV's speakers are horrible the sound is distorted and it makes a crackling sound.

2. When I put in one of my games when it starts to load the game it goes to static for a a second before a game starts.

3. When the TV's on a really dark screen I can see the edges of a white circle.

This is my first TV so I'm not sure what to do. Should I return the TV? and if I do should I just get them to replace it or should I try and get them to exchange it for a Sony Bravia and I just pay the extra $200?

Anyone seen/used one of these yet? I have'nt seen one in JB yet.

Now I'm really confused.

The latest JB Hi-Fi mag has the soniq "Full HD - 1080P" - Blu-ray Disc Ready priced for $2296

Its on the same page with all the other Full HD - 1080P LCD's

Went to the Soniq web page, download the manual and its overall specs has it has 1920 x 1080p res. Supports 1080p on most of its inputs

Overall Specs

Input Signals Spec

Went to JB DFO in Essendon to have a look, there it was, 1366 x 768 res. Asked the guy "is this the Soniq you have listed in the mag as Full HD 1080p" and his response was "well, its not really a full HD screen, it can support it" and then he walked off, ok it was nearly 6pm closing time.

This is where I'm confused now, the manual has it listed as 1080p, JB mag has it on the same page with all the brands of 1080p (Samsung, LG, Sharp and Sony) but at the store its not.

Would somebody care to assist?
