Where in Perth will I get the best price?? Thanks very much Nice TV. I guess if you have compared it to say the 50 inch full HD pioneer and still like it, the only issue is timing. The new models have been released oversea's, so it is only a matter of time before the prices come down a lot on the X series or you wait for the new Sony's.

Where in Perth will I get the best price?? Thanks very much I have one and sit about 3.5 - 4m away and have no problems. Sport looks the goods and HD DVD and Blu Ray will just blow you away on this display! Take the plunge. You should be able to get for mid to high seven's I would have thought by now. I purchased for a tad over $8 back in October last year. If you wait, you could wait forever!
Owen Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Hum, 3.5 meters and 52” sounds very small to me. I went from 57” to 70” at 3 meters and it’s not too big. At 3.5 meters even a 70’ is not big enough to resolve 1080 res.

Yes unfortunatley for me Owen, my space is not conjucive to a screen that size, my preference would be 100" fed by the new JVC Full HD projector and would consider this to be the smallest size screen worthy of 1080! Unfortunately life is about compromise. No doubt I will be back to an 100" screen in the not too distant future! Having said this the 52" X still looks absolutely brilliant fed by HD DVD and Blu Ray!
skregs Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 Ok Thanks boys sounds great Hopefully I can grab one around the 7 grand mark
KRiSX Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 what about the 60" SXRD? or is pyshical size an issue?
skregs Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 what about the 60" SXRD? or is pyshical size an issue? ooh, big screen, what's she worth?
KRiSX Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 can be had easily for $4k i got mine for $3700... should be arriving very soon

It’s not the screen size that’s important, its viewing distance for any give screen size. For 1080 a 70” screen is spot on for a 2.8-3.0 meters viewing distance. For 3.3- 3.5 meters about 80” would be ideal and 100” too big for optimal quality. A front projected image is also not going to have the same punch, impact or three dimensionality as the SXRD RPTV or the X series LCD. All you get is a bigger size which allows for a greater viewing distance.
sanitarium Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 can be had easily for $4ki got mine for $3700... should be arriving very soon skregs i think that $3700 would be pushing it here in Perth. JB in Ozzy Park have it advertised for $4500, when i went in they offered me $4350 for cash. Went next door to HN and was looking about $4250 - $4300. If i could get one of the 60" for $4k or under i'd snap it up, maybe we should team up and buy in bulk!! That'd probably get us a good discount
KRiSX Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 lol.. i'm suprised you can't get it for $4k... push em harder... tell them to match $XXXX and you'll buy it

HoffY Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 skregs, you sure you dont want to hold up a little till the samsung LCD's come out? i think it would be worth the wait. Considering the problems ppl are having with the X'sa nd the new features the samy's will bring (3x HDMI and 1080p over component to name a copule)... Food for your thought. We are only talking weeks it seems as well. Quite worth waiting when it comes to 8 grand.
gkelly Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Also the new range of the X Series TV's from Sony are due soon, they probably use the same panel as the new Samsung. http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=48057 Probably worth the wait.
AndrewWilliams Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I'm gonna go for the x series 52 inch mateCan get it for $7900 Double the price of a 60" R Series and worse picture quality. You need to be incredibly desperate to hang your TV on the wall.
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Double the price of a 60" R Series and worse picture quality. You need to be incredibly desperate to hang your TV on the wall. Another R plug.. personally I think they look furry and crap with FTA and dull image. I'm not anti-srxd infact I havent completely discounted them from my short list, I just can't see what the fuss is about image wise. Also I think these sets are going to be next to zero resale value once the next gen LCD and plas sets settle in. They get better and cheaper every year. Face it, sxrd are not sexy and the public (misinformed merkin they may be) dont want them. you've also got expensive lamp replacements - of which it will probably be in need of when your looking to the next upgrade in 3-4 years time, and will probably cost more than the tv is worth to replace.

I personally don’t care if know one buys the SXRD’s, it’s their loss. After living with a 57” 1080 display for 2 years there was no way I could find a 52” display acceptable at my 2.8-3.0 meter viewing distance, let alone an LCD with their inherent characteristics. Sure LCD’s are getting better, but they will need to get a whole lot better before I will buy one and by the time that happens there will be better options. As for SD performance, I watch mostly Foxtel-Austar and I could not be happier with the performance of the SXRD. I know for a fact that no other display of similar size can match the 70” SXRD with SD source. Any owner will tell you that the SXRD’s are anything but dull. If fact they are way too bright for most viewing environments. I am in the process of reducing the light output on my set by 50% with the installation of a neutral density filter because it has more light output then I can use and I would rather optimise blacks. Purchase price, running cost and resale value are of no concern to me, although I have no doubt that it is an issue for others, to each his own there. The like cycle of a display these days is about 2 years if you want to stay on top of the quality heap.
complectus Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 (misinformed merkin they may be) OMG! you said "merkin"! from Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkin "A merkin (first use, according to the OED, 1617) is a pubic wig, worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia to eliminate lice or to disguise the marks of syphilis... + etc" Sorry, but I have nothing of value to add to this topic. I just like merkins... or at least the word - I've never actually seen a real one. LOL
Trigg Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Double the price of a 60" R Series and worse picture quality. You need to be incredibly desperate to hang your TV on the wall. Thankfully that's your opinion and he can make up his own
Trigg Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Let him make his own dec ision after viewing. He asked about a specific TV, didn't ask for alternatives. I feel that people that actually own this unit are in the best position to actually comment!
drsmith Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Whilst it is true that the SXRD's will not suit everybody, anyone considering an expensive LCD such as the 52" X series should also consider the SXRD's.
