k00k1503559827 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Just wondering, what is THE current reference disc out there at the moment, or available shortly? I've read that King Kong is pretty darn impressive. I'm mainly concerned with the visuals. Thanks for any choices... cheers

Thanks for any choices... cheers Happy Feet for HD DVD and Ice Age for Blu-ray.I haven't seen it yet but open season I heard is amazing on Blu-ray.There is quite a bit on both actually but there the two choices that stood out for me.
k00k1503559827 Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 Thanks Franin. I'll put Happy Feet in the shopping basket then...

betty boop Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 for me in following order the departed chronicles of riddick king kong
AndrewW Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 according to the avsforum HD DVD tier thread, the tier 0 titles (in PQ order) are: King Kong Happy Feet Hulk Corpse Bride The Ant Bully A Scanner Darkly Andrew.
Gino Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Are you sure that is PQ order? I thought they are just top tier titles in any order... although I haven't been keeping up with that thread. I'd rate Ant Bully higher than a few of those, is there even a single flaw in this digital transfer?
AndrewW Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Are you sure that is PQ order? Yep. From here The titles within a tier are also in order of PQ. A title listed above another in the same tier has a slightly higher PQ rating. Andrew.
Gino Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 In any case, I look at that list with a grain of salt. I doubt many who have voted on the list have reference displays, and even though they may be able to see the difference between a tier 1 and a tier 3, I can't see how they can say something in tier 0 is better than another in the top tier. Particularly when I read comments like they see posterisation on some scenes, or noise in dark scenes, but when I look at the same scene at home I see no signs of either. Or the reverse situation as I think my display is less forgiving and will show flaws if any.
