I was quoted a price of $425.00 per pair of these speakers by a Specialist HiFi store (whom shall remain unamed). So I went ahead and ordered two pairs for $850.00 (in silver) and placed a deposit of $200.00 as speakers needed to be ordered in from supplier.

I today received a call on my message bank stating that the price was misquoted and that infact te price was $425.00 per speaker ($1700.00 in total for four!)

My questions are - does anybody know the RRP of the speakers are? Where do I stand with what has been quoted (not that I want to send the store broke!) What other surround options are there for these prices (I was keen on the B&W's give my front's are B&W).

What is the RRP on the 705's?

It's OK, looks like the RRP is $499 a speaker. I'll let you know the outcome!

If you have evidence it is a quote, esp in writing, they actually should honour it

At least they could come to a deal with you (say at cost plus10)

You can certainly cancel the order if you wish

A norpus says

if you have the quote on paper hey have to stick to it, they will be losing money though i would say on such a deal.

If the quote was over the phone, well i suppose you need to work something out with them and see if you can come to an agreement.

As for the B&W 705's they are aroun $2500 a pair

Have you also considered something like the B&W ds6 surounds? for around 1199 a pair for the inwall ones and 1299 i think for the wall mounted ones

I remember being quoted $899 for a pair of FPM 5's (might have been 4's, can't recall exactly). I knew it was incorrect, and confirmed this on Len Wallis' website. Looks like it's a common mistake.

On a slightly similar vein, when we bought our bed a couple of years back, we were quoted a price based on the mattress only, not the ensemble as we requested. We played dumb, and had a sales contract drawn up and paid a deposit on this price. The sales contract (receipt for the deposit, actually) simply showed the balance remaining on an ensemble. It was there in black and white. They had to honour it.

Well, I'm purchasing 4 FPM2 speakers for $1600. I believe this is around cost plus 5 - 10%. They sounded too good to give up and should fit quite well. Bookshelfs are just a little too large for the area I currently have! PS - don't tell the wife!
