bigkid1503559500 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Hi all, Aaaaaaggghhhh! I have just found out that the DVI-D input on my screen - a Fujitsu PDS4242 - may not be HDCP compliant. I had thought that it was as I have been able to get stunning pictures from the many Toshiba J-35 STB/PVRs that I have tried - when I could get them to work at all. I am a little anxious after ordering the HD-XE1 that HDMI to DVI-D may not work. I noticed on the AVS forum that the XE1 was having some problems with HDMI-DVI-D but that these may have been resolved with the last two firmware updates. Does anyone know whether the XE-1 is likely to insist on HDCP compliance or will it be more flexible? I'd hate to have to connect via component (which will leave me with S-Video or maybe d-sub for my new STB). Regards, Allan
momaw Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I was sure someone here had HDCP problems with DVI on an E1. Can someone confirm?
betty boop Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 whether hdcp compliant or not hdmi/dvi-D conversion does not have a part to play. if not hdcp compliant on hdmi it wont be hdcp compliant on dvi-d. dvi-d is jsut the video component out of hdmi minus the audio.
momaw Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Dats right al. I was just specifying the other user was also using DVI. DVI being a standard that was in place before HDCP and HDMI is very iffy with new equipment. Anyone with a DVI connector is basically playing a game of Russian roulette whenever they by a HDCP player. Not just because of HDCP. but also because some HDMI devices won't hand shack with them.

Hey al. So does this mean that I should be able to have high quality video HDMI to DVI-D even though the DVI-D is not compliant - or are there other factors involved? Dats right al. Hey Mo. The J35 video worked splendidly HDMI - DVI-D, so I was kinda hoping, as both are made by Toshiba, that the HDMI video output on the Toshiba XE1 and the J35 might have something in common, thereby shifting the odds of success in my favour. Might just have to wait and see. Regards, Allan

HDMI to HDMI into a yamaha 2700 for awesome sound and then from the 2700 to the panel HDMI - DVI.
