Whitebait Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Hi all, My company is looking to implement a security solution to stop the constant vandalism at our office. We have our eyes on a simple security camera that will record video and send it wireless over a distance, which we hope to pick up on a DVD recorder and record to it's harddrive. Basically a few main feautes on the recorder need to be in place, such as: The ability to set a recurring schedule of recordings (i.e 530pm-6am every day, 24 hours at weekends), not having to reset this schedule every week. A hard drive big enough to hold around 90 hours of low quality footage (to cover for long weekends). Needs to be able to burn to DVD should we record something that the police need to see. And also the possible ability to automatically rewrite itself when the harddrive becomes full (not essential) If there a product availble that can do all this? We will consider all products regardless of price. Regards, Alex White
madmax Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Have you considered using an old computer and a webcam? Then you can run software which will only record images when movement is detected, and will make burning footage to dvd very easy.
pgdownload Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Suggest you do a bit of browsing through the yellow pages or the web WB. Lot's of company's selling a range of such stuff from simple motion activated CCTV digital recording, through to on site monitoring 24/7 (so you might actually have a chance of catching the vandals rather than just recording them). Prices would probably range for a few $100's to $1000's. Something like this maybe: http://www.protectyourproperty.com.au/ Regards Peter Gillespie

Which Reminded me of another site I checked out ages ago:http://www.australianinvestigationagency.com.au/index.htm This seemed a very good DIY site (Day/Night camera about $250) Digital Video Recorder $900, etc. Regards Peter Gillespie
Whitebait Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 The problem with motion detection is we are on a very busy street and we want the camera to face through the window, it would be going off at all hours. Also, sorry if I wasn't clear but we have already got a camera lined up (Swnn Black Knight Weather Colour Camera), we are now looking for a DVD recorder to work with it. Thanks for all assistance. Regards, Alex White

The Recorders seem exactly what you want. Motion Detection isn't relevant as you record 24/7 - Continuous recording of up to 170 days on a 500Gb harddrive - and DVD backup.http://www.australianinvestigationagency.com.au/prod91.htm The Swann Black Knight Weather Colour Camera has some good features but I can't see how we'll it would do at night (if that is needed. Depending on the PQ its only another $200 for an additional night camera. If you go up a model in the DVDR area then it can accept multiple inputs form 4-16 cameras. For all the stuffing around to try adapt a conventional TV DVDR etc. to a security system it might be a lot simpler to get a purpose made item? Regards Peter Gillespie
