POV
saw this tv in action today and no doubt it is a very nice panel, that $1890 price is an amazing price for this TV and well below JB's cost price, they rang all over the place for me today and wouldn't go below $2000, which made me think that i wouldn't bother and just go for the samsung R81 but if i could get the price down that far i'd be tempted, still don't see it happening in adelaide, not for quite a while anyway. Gaven83
I decided to go out today and get a few prices. Only found two stores with them in my area, Bing Lee and Harvey Norman. At Bing Lee I didn't even have to ask about a best price, the salesman just turned around after finding out if he had any in stock and told me he could do it for $1960. He isn't expecting them in until the first of next month but said if I were desperate he could get one in for me today. Aparently has 25 on order and has already presold 23 of them. Went to Harvey Norman and managed to find them in boxes and without haggling was told by the salesman he could do it for about $1950. So it's definately possible to get it below $2000. Harvey Norman were setting a set up this afternoon so I'll pop in tomorrow and get another close look at one.
skin
I'm sure you could get it for even less than that.
Gaven83
I'm sure I could and once I get to spend a bit more time looking at one I'm definately considering buying one. It's at that point that I'll attempt to get a cheaper price. I doubt there would be too much room left to go though. Might be able to get them down to $1850. skin
I won't settle for anything more than $1850.
Guest MoiVous
Found this TV on display last Saturday next to a 70A and a Bravia V3000 at Keith Bowden in Adelaide on the offchance it was in. Apparently it arrived last Wednesday afternoon. They were showing some nature shots, which looked very good on the 700A and V3000 - but no motion to speak of. Got the salesman to put on the Red Bull Air Race on 10 on all 3 panels. The 70A had the most motion artefact, the 700A and V3000 were neck and neck, but the 700A was sharper overall with almost no jaggie type backgrounds (particularly with the white wings sweeping over the background). Colours were brilliant too - richer than the Bravia (but that could be setup). The other half also thought that its styling was cleaner and better than the other two, and not as "Japanese" looking as the Samsung R81 we'd looked at weeks ago. That's just too shiny - not our taste at all. Its a TV, not a piano! In the end, rather than wait again, we ordered it for $2063 - delivered, installed, and our old broken TV taken away. (I know should have haggled somewhere else, but after 6 weeks of our old 30cm CRT as substitute, enough is enough). Due for delivery Wednesday afternoon. Will post first impressions later this week. skin
Well done MoiVous...I've been shopping for a new TV for nearly 3 years now!!!
Gaven83
I've been shopping for one now for 18 months. The problem that I always run into is that the second I decide on one model of TV that looks to be perfect, some new technology like 100Hz or x.v.Y.C.C. gets mentioned and I wait a bit longer. Then you wait for something with one more HDMI port. Then all of a sudden a new model appears of the horizon that looks better than the one you're looking at and it's only '2 months away', so you wait. It's a never ending struggle. What I'd give to be able to upgrade every 6 months.
hergs
Well I can confirm that DVDs look stunning on the 700A. If anyone is concerned about motion blur, don't be, because from what I could see there isn't any. Seems like the 100hz handles motion really well. Dark scenes - overall I'm very impressed with how the TV handles blacks. Of course they aren't pure blacks and in really dark scenes you can tell. Once or twice in a dark scene with alot going on, the TV would go from a dark black, then change to light black, then back, depending on the scene, but bear in mind this was very very rare (only happened twice in a 2 hour span). I imagine this is something that would occur with all LCD Tvs simply due to the fact they are LCDs. But clarity, colours, motion are all absolutely amazing, and this is still without calibrating the TV. Also, the DVDs I tested were all compressed DVDs (i.e. once a dual layer disc compressed onto a single layer without special features etc), so a full commercial disc I imagine would be even better. When I inserted the disc into the player, the TV said "component 576p" so a proper commercial DVD would (I'd imagine) display at 1080i. But even at this quality it looks amazing. The sound - it's quite amazing how good the sound quality is from the two thin speakers. I've replaced a full 5.1 system with just these speakers, and they do a very respectable job of filling the void. Hopefully will get around to testing proper discs on it soon, and my 360, but just haven't had the time.
SCAT01
Hehehehehehehehehe. Got the best price ever for the 700A today. Went into Myers (I will give the store name after it arrives) and ask them if $2199 was their best price on the 700A. I then said to them that myers Penrith sold it to a customer for $1890. Ask the sales person if they could do a bit better. The guy got onto the phone, to who knows who, and came back and said that they could sell it to us for $1750 plus $50 for the delivery on saturday (meh I am not that bothered by the amount charged as long as I get it this week). My face went probably like this . And said deal, how the hell could I say no to that price. Also the $50 also probably is because I bought a second item(cabinet for the LCD to rest upon) as well. NOTE: My memory is some what a blur so some peices might be missing because of the shock.

skin
Hey hergs, You keep mentioning that you haven't calibrated your TV yet. Give these settings a go. They are from the TX-32LXD70 review at www.hdtvtest.co.uk and should at least be a good starting point for you. "The following settings are optimized for HD broadcast and HD DVD performance via HDMI input. There are several reasons why they won't work for you, as they can all affect final picture quality. * Personal preference * Ambient light * Source material * Players * Intramodel variation Cinema mode Contrast At Default Brightness: -2 Colour: +5 Sharpness: -1 Tint: -4 (if available) Colour Temperature: Warm P-NR: Off Colour Management: Off All the controls above are denoted as presses from default values, hah...I didn't make the rules...blame Panasonic. I can already hear the disapproving cries from the angry mob because of my colour temperature choice, but at least give it a chance Your eyes will remember..." Let us know if it looks any better. DFgunner
i've been looking at the panasonic website for more info on this 70/700A LCD, but aparently it still has the 60/600A model on it....how come they don't show the new model on their website + no advertising campaign on them?
Gaven83
Because Panasonic are not on the ball. You'd think they'd have info on the website at least 1 month before release hyping their new product. If you search on google there is a .pdf which outlines their entire new range (including plasmas). Shame they don't put more effort into promotion. SCAT01
According to the panasonic website the RRP is $2399 for the 700A http://panasonic.com.au/products/category.cfm?objectID=
skin
In my experience with new TVs, you should be able to pick one up for 20% below RRP on the day of release! For the 700a, that's about $1,920...So we are already well below that.
SCAT01
I was just pointing out the RRP. So if you can get it for $1750 (27% off the RRP if my calculations are correct) your doing great $649 saving

MC DUI
Went shopping for one of these today, best price I could get from Good Guys, JB Hifi and Domain was $2000! They were whinging and ****ing about $1900odd being their cost price... Do you people who got it from Myer for $1750 in Sydney reckon they would match that price up here in Newcastle? Even around $1850 I would be bloody happy!

I've rung my local Myer store and they won't price match other shops unless they have receipted proof, any chance you could take a picture of your receipt or invoice and post it on here (Just blank out your details)? Would be great if you could as the best price I can get elsewhere is $2000... Also if anybody else could post their receipt that has a better price than $2000 that would be awesome! Thanks in advance guys.
