I've heard great things about the 700a but was a little dissappointed with what I saw. Hopefully once it's been calibrated correctly it will be great but just near it was the Toshiba W66 Regza and that looked a vastly better picture on 7 Digital. The Pana didn't seem quite as sharp in picture quality. I'm putting it down to bad calibration but must admit from what I'd heard I expected to be blown away and I wasn't. hergs Posted July 23, 2007 Share Posted July 23, 2007 Hi, Bought the 700A yesterday from Penrith Myer - $1890. Myer has really stepped up their game since Coles Myer got removed from the picture. Looks great, very impressed with the speakers. Got new furniture and had no place to put my old surround speakers, so these speakers should do a great job of filling the void (best alternative anyway). As for the picture - in store the 700A was alot brighter than other panels I saw. Haven't calibrated the TV yet (still setting stuff up), but very happy with the display regardless. Was standing right in front of it today in Penrith Myer while buying a DVD player! Skin - I'm absolutely no expert at all when it comes to TV's, especially as this is my first LCD. However, main reasons I bought this TV were: 1. Needed to get 32" (size restrictions with furniture) - all reviews I've read on the 700 say this TV is the best you can get in 32" 2. 100hz 3. Looks great! 4. Sound - once again to do with my furniture restrictions (I know...get some new furniture) 5. Also decided to buy this from Myer due to their no questions asked refund policy So this particular purchase was dictated by alot of individual circumstances associated with my living room! hergs Posted July 23, 2007 Share Posted July 23, 2007 Just to update - without calibration, channels 7 and 9 look absolutely phenomenal using the built in tuner. Absolutely brilliant. Ten looks very good - just not as crisp as the others. Perhaps its not their 1080i channel... Blacks are very good - you can still see some light shining through the panel, but it's only slight. Yep $1890 for the 32" (not cash either). 2 component. 2 S video (one on the side of the unit). 3 RCA (one on the side of the unit). 1 PC / RGB connector. That's pretty much it I think! Went to JB Hifi in Penrith also, wouldn't do any better than $1960 - they had one left. skin Posted July 23, 2007 Share Posted July 23, 2007 Hergs, this TV should have 3 HDMI ports. There should be a third in the front of the TV. That is such a nice looking TV. I can't stand the grey floating glass look of the Sony Bravia's. I'm trying to decide between the 32 inch 700A LCD and the 42 inch 70A Plasma. The 32 would fit a lot easier into my current viewing room and would make an easier transition to the bedroom when I upgrade again in a few years. My only concern with the 700A is black levels and motion. I am hoping when my local stores get the 700A they will put it fairly close to the 70A so I can compare pictures. Can you watch some really dark DVD scenes and describe the picture? Do it in normal and dark lighting conditions if possible. I realise black won't be completly black because of the LCD backlight, but it's more shadow detail that I'm looking for. Congrats on an awesome buy nevertheless. I actually asked Panasonic about this last week - apparently the 700 (note not 700A) has 3 HDMI ports, whereas the 700A only has 2. The 700 is an overseas model or something. Also just checked the manual - only 2 HDMI ports. No idea why. Look, saw the 70A plasma today and that is an awesome TV. If I could get a bigger TV I would probably get that. But due to a number of reasons, 32" was simply the way to go, and this was the best out there. Black levels are very good - you're right, they're not completely black, but its only slightly less black than the actual unit itself. As for motion - only motion I have seen so far is some golf on channel ten - a little bit of blur, but in fairness the unit hasn't been calibrated and channels 7 and 9 looked much much better. Watching SBS saw some ads for Tour de France and images of moving graphics looked absolutely awesome. Not live action though... Whites look bright as anything. Will let you know how the DVD goes. I'm going to go look for this TV on the weekend. My local stores should have it in stock by then and my Tax return should be well on the way. You shouldn't need a receipt. Ring around all your local stores first leaving the big name stores last. Get a "Best cash price" from the first store - knock $50 or so off it - and tell the next store on your list that they offered you that. Repeat. By the time you get to the last store - Probably Harvey Norman or something you should have a nice price. Next wait a week and then start again but this time in person and starting with the lowest price you managed the week before. Trust me, this method works better than you would believe! I have saved hundreds of dollars doing this. The secret is you must be prepared to walk away if they say no. If that happens. Give it another week and try again. Trust me, it works a treat. My centre speaker is about 42.2cm wide and about 25cm deep, so the 700a should sit on in fine with a little hang over on the sides. At least it won't be balancing precariously or anything.
