xc17ed Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Has anyone had any experience with these? Granted the audio is now DTS, but does anyone know if you can expect any better picture than a standard DVD? "Definitive Edition Series featuring state-of-the-art picture, superior sound quality, amazing bonus features, premium packaging and High Resolution Digital Transfer creating a spectacular look and feel with DTS Audio!" A list of titles available here.

From memory most of the titles that are listed came with DTS at some stage of their respective releases anyhow, the only one I think that hasn't was The Terminator. Might be just a really good marketing ploy as well!
xc17ed Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 well thats kinda why I'm asking. I don't want to go to a next gen player until a winner is decided (and the price drops a bit), but getting annoyed at the fact that I get better picture quality from free to air TV than movies that I buy. Was hoping this would be a mild solution.

50mxe20 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Didn't you get enough answers here: Definitive Edition
xc17ed Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 I did. Someone suggested that I post it here, as I was likely to get more information, so I did. This thread can be closed.
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 8, 2007 Volunteer Posted May 8, 2007 Well I thought I would get the Independence Day Definitive DVD as mine doesn't have DTS, preordered from EZY DVD, came yesterday, blow me down no DTS. Says ont the covers (both of them as it is in a cardboard slip cover as well) that it has 5.1 surround and 5.1 DTS, put the disc in when I got home just to check it but lo and behold no DTS in the menu. Rang EZY DVD who are at a loss as to why it isn't on there, they are now chasing it up with FOX and have said they will contact me today, if no joy I will send it back for a refund. Cheers Karen
50mxe20 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 It doesn't default to DTS. Are you sure you just didn't need to go into set-up and set it. Sometimes it's under languages or somewhere obscure.

Cheers Karen Ditto. Pre-ordered from Ezydvd and no DTS sound. This release is identical to the two disc extended edition released back in 2004, which also did not have DTS sound as advertised on the packaging. It is identical right down to the menu selection screens. Not sure if they've screwed up and used the wrong older version or if it's a scam. I am now going to write to Ezydvd to notify them of this. Hopefully we can get a replacement for the correct version or i will be getting a refund as i already have the 2004 release.
50mxe20 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Yep went into the menu but unfortunately no option for DTS checked both the extended and theatrical versions just to be sure.Bummer. I am giving Fox the benefit of the doubt for now and hoping they just used the wrong discs but if this is deliberate then it a case of false advertising. Will wait for Ezy DVD to call me back and see what info they have. Only got this for the DTS, already have the original release. Karen.

I have notified Ezydvd via e-mail and will wait for the reponse, probably be tomorrow. If you hear anything sooner keep us updated. Cheers.

Volunteer Kazz Posted May 8, 2007 Volunteer Posted May 8, 2007 Ok I have just had a call from Ezydvd, they have contacted Fox who say they have no idea what is going on and they have to investigate the matter. I have to send the dvd back to ezydvd in the reply paid envelope that they are going to send to me and they will then give me a full refund and then they will contact me when they have an answer from Fox. The girl I spoke to was Katrina (very friendly and helpul) and the returns officer is Mary so might be a good idea to give them a call on 1300666072. Karen.

I contacted FOX directly and they pretty much told me the same thing. They said they probably won't call back today but will when they know if they will be offering replacement discs or not.
Dolphy Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Hi, I was at JB with a friend on Saturday and we noticed the Definitive Editions. I assumed that Fox have just repackaged some previously released DVDs. We were able to find a copy of X-Men 1.5 and compared the special features to X-Men DE. low and behold they were exactly the same. All Fox have done is put on a cardboard slip case onto existing DVDs. Very sneaky Fox!!! Rgds, Dolphy

Sounds like this might all just be a big scam, and Fox have been found out by re-releasing a movie that was previously mislabelled as having DTS when it did not ... Andrew.
Dolphy Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Hi Karen, Independence Day - Extended Edition (2 Disc Set) (DTS), You might find that they are the same. I guess that batch you purchased must've been faulty. Rgds, Dolphy

The words false advertising and ACCC spring to mind but then so do ACCC & useless. Karen

Yep sure enough no DTS on independats day, go to setup, sound options and al you have is 5.1 and thats DD haven't tried the other one yet, but it also claims to have DTS if it doesn't i will be taking them both back for a refund as thats the only reason i bought them also
Azz123 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 has anyone manually tried going through the audio tracks on the DVD's? NOT using the menu?
