I'm looking for BBC1/2 C4, etc and ideally all those other channels available on Sky, etc in the UK - are these available here anywhere?

No, except for BBC World which you can get on pay TV such as Select TV, Austar/Foxtel etc on Ku band satellite, OR as a free to air service on Intelsat 8 C Band sat. It IS in english and is alos on adjoining satellite Intelsat 2.

BBC Radio is on Optus C1 (the same sat as Austar/Foxtel) as part of the Aurora service, or on C band.

The only platform over which you would be able to receive these channels, would again be on Sky's satellite platform. SES Astra at 28.2 degrees East. As this is basically on the other side of the Earth, and below the horizon, it's not going to happen.

You may eventually find yourself lucky in a few years time and eventually find peer-to-peer pirate broadcasts. Or, you could install a box in the UK and transmit the signal across the Internet allowing you to view it here in Australia.

However, this is impractical for starters because of the current state of broadband in Australia, and for that matter the UK. So, in a nutshell, no, and not any time soon, and even then only with some compromises.

FWIW All the UK BBC radio stations are streamed live on the net via www.bbc.co.uk/radio

but not all are available to IP addresses designated as outside of the UK....
