bigkid1503559500 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Hi all, Have been using the new Mediastar 9022 for a few hours. I am presently connected via s-video until component on my screen becomes available with the upcoming replacement of my DVD player with an HDMI equipped Toshiba HD-DVD. I have a DVI-D input on my screen which is a Fujitsu PDS4242. Previously I have connected a Toshiba J35 STB (well three of them actually until I gave up) to the screen - HDMI to DVI-D. I tried to get the Mediastar connected up in the same way to have a look at its upscaling capability but get a flawed, displaced, black and white picture and a warning on my screen that the signal is "Out of Range". The resolution for this problem noted in the screen's manual is: "*Input proper signals - Make sure that the vertical frequency of the input signal is 85Hz or less for SVGA, 75Hz or less for XVGA/SXGA, 60Hz or less for UXGA." The mediastar only gives me an option to change from 576p, 720p and 1080i - all of which are 'Out of range'. I have no idea what verticla and horizontal frequencies are being used. There are also also some filtering that can be tweaked (low/medium/high) to nil result and a 'film mode' is available, although I'm not sure what that is. The Fuji worked fine with HD from the J35 without any dicking about. Any ideas on what might be wrong here? Appreciate your advice. Also - the channel leds on the front of this thing are a bit intense! - You can read by them in the dark. I don't suppose anyone has come across a dimmer. Nothing is noted in the manual. I note the front panel on this model comes down with a space for future card input. Sounds like a potentially promising future development? That all said. This unit, other than HDMI (which seems to be performing OK for at least one other forumite), has performed flawlessly. The HDMI is not a big deal for me as I will be using component anyway. I am so glad I gave up fricking about with HD-PVR and waiting for the next one, always so full of promise. Regards, Allan
DaveMews Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Hey. Easy things first - in the receiver configuration menu there is a Dimmer option. You can use this to change the channel display brightness. The front panel is the same on the 820/920/9022 and soon the 8022 (dvb + sat pvr). This is not used on the 920/9022, but is available in the 820/8022. The HDMI settings affect colour saturation/brightness to accomodate for any TV's that dont have individual colour adjustments on HDMI. Is the DVI-D input on the plasma HDCP compliant? The HDMI interface on the 9022 must have a HDCP handshake to work correctly. This may or may not be supported over DVI on your plasma. I would suggest calling Mediastar support who can advise on troubleshooting.
bigkid1503559500 Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 Hey Crusher, found the dimmer in 'display'. Thanks. I think that the screen is HDCP compliant - but I am only basing that on the fact that it worked perfectly with the J35. I'll check with Fujitsu and Mediastar. Ta. Allan
Refidim Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 In the HDMI setup menu try RGB / YPbPr settings. You may need to restart the screen after changing. Also many screen do not support 720p, some require a reset when changing the format.

A message comes up and tells me 'Screen support only for RGB'. The manual for the screen says that it supports 720p with horizontal and vertical frequencies of 45 & 37.5kHz and 60 & 50kHz respectively. Regards, Allan

ChrisFinch Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Hi, I got mine thru Harvey Norman Moore Park as well. Just started playing around with it and so far no problems - but as I dont have an HDMI display cant duplicate the issue raised with that. Took a while getting the better half used to the old PVR, a Digicrystal 9000 (great little unit), so will have to be very familiar with it before I hand it over to her! Picture quality is better with the Mediastar. Im impressed with it so far, no probs with recording 2 different channels last night both with timers - and thats what I mainly got it for. Need to get a long USB cable so I can check out the MP3 capabilities. The only thing I have any issue with is the universal remote! Shape and size not wife friendly! Programmed it for my Pioneer DVD, but cant get the arrow keys working to move around and select within menus. Time for a 3rd party universal maybe. Hi Knox.
