Guest mistered Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Just received The Good Shepherd HD DVD from Amazon. Horror of horrors, I get an error "This disc is not DVD format. Cannot play the disc" on my Toshiba HD-E1. So I fired up the "backup" X360 HD DVD player, now the move loads but playback is awful.. dropping frames all over the place. Its a Universal combo format, with "U-control". This is my first disc in about 40+ so far with any problem. Has anyone got this issue, if so is it fixable? mistered

On a different note, my copy of The Departed does this. Interestingly if I start to play another HD DVD beforehand, then eject and put in The Departed, it works. I can stop/start it after that no problems. But if I eject and re-insert it, back to This is not a DVD. Matt

All no go on the HD-E1. However, i got some better result on the X360. I turned off the U-control and it certainly played better to start. But froze on certain scenes as I FFWD thru the movie. Looks like I just bought myself a $30 beer coaster. mistered

Question is do I return the disc now, or wait for the firmware update ...which may not fix the problem? I cant even watch the SD side since the E1 is region locked. mistered
Guest mistered Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Dilemma solved... Amazon are providing a refund so I dont need to return the faulty disc. Sounds like this problem hit a few other folk... "Thanks for contacting us at Amazon.com. First, please allow me to apologize for the problem you experienced with your shipment. As the cost of return shipping is prohibitively expensive in this case, there is no need to return the faulty item. As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread than we originally thought, we are not able to send the replacement. Therefore, I have requested a refund for the item, including associated shipping costs. This refund should go through within the next few days and will appear as a credit of $30.40 on your next credit card billing statement." mistered
