k00k1503559827 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Looks like the links between Toshiba and Castel have finally been severed on the interweb. The links on Toshibas Aus website no longer work, and neither do the ones on Castel. You'd think a major player like Toshiba would have their collective sheeit together regards this. Lets pretend I'm a potential new customer. I go the Tosh website, click on the entertainment section, and am greeted with a 404 error. Not exactly confidence inspiring. I thought they were TRYING to re-launch HD-DVD? Get your blinkin' act together! rant over....

zorg1503559539 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 think they would have had a new website ready to go...... doesn't look good for a promotional point of view
SKG Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I like the sound of this. Nikon got rid of Maxwell and now do their own thing (for the better) and I hope Toshiba goes the same way (prices should also come down) There are alot of distributors that charge WAY to much for some things in this country. Let's hope the trend continues
Tweet Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Well at least, " There was movement at the station for the word had got around ....." C.M
k00k1503559827 Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 think they would have had a new website ready to go...... doesn't look good for a promotional point of view My point exactly. Its not like they're a small outfit. I might apply for a job there in marketing. Obviously the position is currently vacant....
Trigg Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Apparently the new Tosh reps are on the ground as of next week! (according to my source at West Coast HiFi)

Seriously, what is the issue? It's not like you can't get a machine if you want. Even Harvey Norman has E1's. The XE1's are about to be released. Sony themselves don't even have a Blu-ray player (the PS3 doesn't count - it *IS* a games console), and they invented the damn format. Go harrass them too.

The only reason for my rant is that I am keen to see the format succeed! And I think they make solid products.
momaw Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 where do you work again momaw? Trust me, if I worked for a CE, I would have alot better gear than I do

My last contact with them was 2 days ago when they advised (yet another) release date of 1 May with a RRP of $1699!!! - How can they justify this when the price overseas has dropped and they no longer use Castel as a distributor. If anything, the price should go down both for us and to make a mockery of Blu-Ray

I sure hope so Still have the sms from toshiba rep Chris Evans - I think it's past time they get their act into gear and focus on other parts of the world besides US & Europe. Last time I checked, the earth had 2 hemispheres!
moebiouz Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Should you care to negotiate the XE1 can be had for around 1350, however that price would be had on paying a deposit rather than tyrekicking, the units are approx 2 weeks away (finally) Thanks so much for the info. What is your source? Have you pre-ordered? if so, from where? regards

moebiouz Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Just a case of negotiating and showing you are genuine mate, I did much better than that but have been asked not to say where and how much and will honor that agreement. No problem - I respect that. Enjoy your new system
prh Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Looks like Toshiba are starting to stir on their website (http://www.toshiba.com.au), now is a new link to AV products section which brings up a page stating: "Important NoticeThe site is currently undergoing maintenance. Apologies for any inconvenience." Maybe we will see something soon??
zorg1503559539 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 page is still linked to here... http://www.castel.com.au/toshiba/index.asp I'm suprised Castel didn't have a closing down sale...

bigblue Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Castel haven't closed down they just don't distribute for Tosh any more, thank god Toshiba are currently in the process of hiring account managers for the CE products due to the Castel change. They have a National account manager but he is snowed down with all this since the Castel partnership ended march 31st. They are redesigning and hiring at the moment, they will be pushing HD-DVD and thier new line of TV's very hard once up and running. Also the RRP for the XE1 is definately $1599. XE1s are not far away, 2 weeks...
ausnew Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 ...and just for something different. Toshiba internally are communicating to their staff that the units will not be available to the general public until June 1st. Even staff buying units cannot purchase until then. This is to give them enough time to get their marketing machine up and running
