Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share  I purchased the HD DVD xbox 360 add on drive yesterday. Well first of all these units are hard to find.

Every place I went to was sold out. So after some frantic running around the CBD ( Melb) I found one. The box is heavier than you think!

After the 1 hour train ride home I set it all up, which is amazingly quick and easy. Gathered the family in and popped in King Kong.

Wow! The ooh's and ahhs from the family including the wife no less, i realised I'd picked a winner. The picture is fantastic over component. Some scenes do look like 3d.

the detail is wonderful. It's like watching sd dvd for the first time. My first sd dvd player cost me $999 and there were about 10 movies available. For the price, the add on is great value.

I am one happy camper!

cheers

great to read philby the 360 hd-dvd add on sure looks like a quick and easy and most importantly affordable way to get into hi-def movies. good to hear the family including the wife are appreciative of the difference.

I guess that's one advantage of being in a remote town... there's no shortage of add-on drives.

Glad to hear you're happy with your purchase.

Thanks guys, appreciate the replies.

The only issue i have with HD DVD is the lack of animated titles. Of course all the pixar titles are on BR.

I just wish like everyone else it was easier and cheaper to buy titles locally.

Gino, where in far north QLD are you? My family is thinking of a move to Townsville.

A little further north mate, closer to Cairns.

I think atm there is Ant Bully, Corpse Bride and Happy Feet on HD-DVD but I'd also prefer disney/pixar titles

Download the South Park free episode on XBLive, ~1gig. I originally doubted that any improvement could be made, especially on a cartoon like SP, but it definately craps on SBS's offerings. It the "fun with weapons" episode, where it goes all manga (?) when they pretend to be ninjas.

I think when he said animated, he meant computer animated like The Incredibles and Toy Story.

But download the southpark episode anyway, it is very clear as cartoons go, and I thought the episdoe was funny enough, I don't really like south park but I do like manga.

Thanks for the tip I will look out for it!

I took a walk around the cbd looking for HD DVD's to purchase. One store had two titles. they were $64 each! what a rip off. Also went to a ezydvd store. they said they were getting both BR and HD DVD on the 9th of May.

My copy of Happy Feet came through the mail from Amazon.com yesterday. Unbelievable quality on this transfer. I had read where reviewers had stated this to be a new reference disc and I'd have to a agree. Fully recommend this one to anyone.

PS I also habe the 360 add on and could not be happier with the purchase. Such an inexpensive way to enter the HD market.

Since when? There are no Pixar titles on BR at the moment.

Pixar are a part of Disney, and Disney is BR exclusive, meaning once they get around to releasing the pixar movies they will only be on BR.

Thanks guys.

Really enjoying the hd dvd add on. With the impending spring update for xbox 360 dashboard. Whats the best in audio that we can get out of the player?

cheers
