shaddo Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 @ ~9.30 we lost digital reception on from the BCV8 tower from Mt Alexander. Anyone else experiencing this? Aparently BO and Sh!t FM 919 have also been dropping in and out tonight...
mtv Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 WIN digital is also down, plus intermittent TX problems with TEN analogue. All digital & analogue TV transmissions from the TXA tower on Mt Alexander are ok.

Aparently BO and Sh!t FM 919 have also been dropping in and out tonight... Yep, Actually at ~9.00 PM this happened abc/abc2 digital fine 100% signal and quality sbs digital fine 100% signal and quality Prime 7 analog fine WIN 9 and SC10 digital stuffed, no signal at all Prior to 9.00 PM all digital channels, including win 9 and sc10, were 100 % signal strength and quality. Perhaps a phone call and or email to WIN 9 and SC10 in order to let them know about their transmission issues.
mtv Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Perhaps a phone call and or email to WIN 9 and SC10 in order to let them know about their transmission issues. I suspect they are aware of this already.
shaddo Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 just noticed its back, not sure how long... Just did a rescan, come up with Prime Digital  ......... :)I wish
bigdonk Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 just noticed its back, not sure how long...Just did a rescan, come up with Prime Digital  ......... :)I wish WTF, prime digital is online Now that’s surprising, thought this wasn't supposed to happen for another month or two at minimum.
thejackal Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 just noticed its back, not sure how long...Just did a rescan, come up with Prime Digital  ......... :)I wish I'd say it's Prime Shepparton. I've just done a scan and I got it also. Prime Ballarat drifts in & out for me reguarly, but I've never got Shep before. Maybe the breeze is blowing this way tonight!! Cheers.
billabong33 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Yep getting all melbourne channels (except 9 digital) now. It comes in pretty well on clear nights and can overpower some bendigo channels so its hard to tell if there's anything wrong with Bendigo's reception most of the time. Did loose WIN and SC10 digital but yes it did come back. Was lucky to get 10 HD saturday night and watch the native HD AFL game from perth. Felt sorry for the many people who weren't as fortunate and couldnt even watch it in widescreen on sundays PRiME game. SC10's VHF8 service looks pretty messy at the minute. Searched for PRiME bendigo and nothing came up.
mtv Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Just did a rescan, come up with Prime Digital  shaddo, Where are you located? What channel are you receiving Prime on? (real channel, not what's displayed on the STB) eg: Prime Mt Alexander is UHF Ch 31, Prime Ballarat is UHF Ch 46, Prime Shepparton is UHF Ch 45
shaddo Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 ........:)I wish I think some of you missed my hidden text.... I Wish On the subject of Sheparton... mtv, how hard would it be to get a Prime Digital Shep signal from Epsom?
mtv Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I think some of you missed my hidden text.... I Wish On the subject of Sheparton... mtv, how hard would it be to get a Prime Digital Shep signal from Epsom? Hmmm ok, obviously I did miss the hidden text shaddo, so are you saying you didn't get Prime digital in a scan? If you did, where from? thejackal, are you certain it was Shepp Prime you were receiving? Which channel was it.... 45? If conditions are right... UHF ducting can certainly happen, so it's quite possible it was Shepp, especially since Bendigo is just outside the 'mapped' coverage area for the Shepp signals. As for reliable (Shepp - Mt Major) Prime reception in Epsom, I couldn't say without signal measurements. I'd be inclined to think you'd have a better chance of receiving Ballarat. Even though the distance is greater, the signal patterns favour Ballarat over Shepparton into the Bendigo area. I have personally been able to install antennas for reliable Ballarat reception, mostly in nothern and western suburbs of Bendigo. I have tried Shepp reception from those areas without any luck. Haven't had any requests from Epsom, or other eastern suburbs. Not worth bothering with now really, as the Prime transmitter is now on-site at Mt Alexander, so hopefully, it shouldn't be too far away from being on-air. Unless you really want to watch other area's ads
thejackal Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hmmm ok, obviously I did miss the hidden text shaddo, so are you saying you didn't get Prime digital in a scan?If you did, where from? thejackal, are you certain it was Shepp Prime you were receiving? Which channel was it.... 45? It was channel 45 Col, no go today though. I'm in Cal Gully near the State school, with a more or less perfect run to Mt Alexander, but a bit cluttered anywhere else. I've only got the antenna on the side of the chimney (Fracarro P4UA) and it picks up My Alexander usually at 100% when it's pointing towards Ballarat, (or where I'm guessing Ballarat is anyway!!) Cheers.
mtv Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 thejackal, Thanks for the confirmation. Phased arrays have a wide beamwidth when polarised horizontally, which would explain the Mt Alexander reception, even though it's not accurately aligned, as you obviously have sufficient signal strength and quality for it to work ok. Both Bendigo AND Ballarat digital from the one antenna... you are indeed very fortunate.
thejackal Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 thejackal,Both Bendigo AND Ballarat digital from the one antenna... you are indeed very fortunate. I'd probably get Ballarat better if I spent a bit of time at it, but as stated, it drifts in & out (I saw round 1 of the footy, but missed round 2). I'd get it setup properly, but could't justify the expense, as it should be all OK when Prime FINALLY gets going and I actually point it at Mt Alexander. Cheers.
tech_head123 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Well, the blackout the other night says two things: keep something in your system with an analogue tuner even when they all go digital, to allow for this loss of digital service, and perhaps WIN & SC don't have standby gear for digital as they might for analogue. Can you imagine the fuss if their analogue services went off air for the same extended period? Not to mention the potential loss of income from sponsers if their ads didn't get to air.
