As a general rule I don't like sticking labels on CDs/DVDs. When they wear off or you peel them off they take some of the surface with them and I reckon they can destroy, or at least damage, your DVDs.

I'll second that...

It might be a little pricy, but I'm impressed with the quality from my Epson Stylus 2100 A3 inkjet.

The price of inkjet compatible printable CD/DVD disks these days is ludicrously low, and good inkjet printers with CD/DVD print capabilities are also surprisingly cheap.

Figure out what else the printer can be used for... and sometimes the seemingly more expensive printer may end up being the most cost effective through multiple uses beyond just printing disk labels.

Research, research, research - unless of course you'd just like someone to say "Get this printer dude!" "It's like the most amazing printer man..." "Do yourself a favour, and ignore everyone else's faves; because this printer is the bomb!"? In which case; I've already said which printer I put my money on. :D

Have you heard of Lightscribe?

One of the PC's at work has a Lightscribe drive, and the results are pretty damned impressive.

The down side is the lack of the complete colour palate, with colour being dependent on the disk substrate - so no true multi colour printing, and the need for disks that are compatible with the Lightscribe technology that's incorporated into the writer.

OK. I get nervous just writing on DVDs.

So you know:... If you're intending a 'hobbyist' style useage regime for the printer you buy... then the Epson 2100 is a notch or two into the prosumer range. Lots of professional and semi-professional photographers have the Epson 2100.

If you wanted to turn printing disks into your prime income... then you'd be after dedicated multiple disk style printers. :D

It's definitely a case of horses for courses...

The Pixma 4200 will do an excellent job. I use the IP3000 (its predecessor) and the MP810 which is equally as good with a scanner function as well. The MP810 will allow you to scan an original CD artwork and it will automatically put it onto a printable CD. Really Cool.

I have just recently brought an Epson R390.

Seems to print fine on DVD's (the white printable ones). In my review I said that the quality wasn't "brilliant" in the true meaning of the word, but investigations since have shown that this is per for the course.

Apart from that, as far as photo printing goes, it's truly as good as or even better than lab-quality.

Too late now wheelz but I posted a review on the Canon Pixma MP800 a while back.

The Canon MP800 prints DVD covers directly from the scanner ..you dont need a PC to print a copy of a DVD cover.

I think the 4300 does as well dont it?...for a lot cheaper than the MP800

Why Mello, you and I must be soulmates. I've got an MP810.

Maybe we clash because we are so much alike.

I've got a Canon black and white laser. L??-3000 ?

best printer I've had, and I've smashed a few....

I sense this thread is morphing into a personal printer appreciation fest... :D so,

I love my Xerox Docuprint C1618 1,200x1,200 dpi CMYK laser for my general printing requirements, like letterheads, business cards on heavy weight stock, envelopes with logos etc, etc. Printing on double sided gloss stock makes DVD covers look very professional. Colour Laser printers are so cheap these days...

To get right back on-track, A little warning for all interested, The Brother HL-2040 B & W Laser printer currently in the Officeworks catalogue (until Sunday 29 April) would not make a good CD/DVD printer, but at $129 for a Laser Printer, what do you expect ?

We have the model before (HL-1430) for all our B & W printing, with two kids in Uni, it's done 10,500 prints, and we have just put our second cartridge in it ($88, Officeworks own brand).

A really smart choice if you do a fair bit of printing and your colour printer is Keeping You Poor.

Brother HL-2040 / $129 / Officeworks :D

No, B & W is not Bowers & Wilkins
