Ps3 & Sd Dvd

Recommended Posts

Tried to look this info up but could not find it.

Wanted to know if the PS3 upscales the DVD's to 1080i (The setting selected for DVD) or does it just upconverts?

Secondly, is there significant difference between 1080i and 1080p for a 40" LCD display

Thanks

no scaler yet, but sony say it will get one down the track sometime via a f/w update. still, reports are its an excellent SD DVD player as is.

1080p v 1080i - where to start on that one  i say no, on the assumption the sony has a decent deinterlacer

Check out this review on the PS3 as a DVD player.

"While I would still recommend it as a Blu-ray player, anyone considering adding the PS3 to their home theater rack should probably keep their standard DVD player as well."

Might be only applicable to the NTSC version...

hmm, interesting...

the reports i was referring to are from PS3 owners in this forum, over in the PS3 thread where i asked that exact question. as you say though, could be attributable to the different versions

I admit, I was not exactly gob smacked by the pic on the KVHR for the SD Minority Report DVD, which prompted this question.

Still awaiting the BD copy of Casino Royale

Mind blowing depth, quality and clarity for the games content though
