Yes, websites of the main AVR's is only a guide to price ranges.

Street prices are always better and sometimes, like on this forum, there are some real bargains.

Slightly over $1K, but well worth the extra IMO. Yamaha RX-V1600

As far as i can see, this is a clearance item, not a refurb.

Definitely recommend spending the extra $100 - $150 to get one of these. I bought one as a clearance item/refurb recently and it's brilliant.

Under $1K??

Possibly. The 604 RRP is $1400 but doesn't upconvert to HDMI. I'm guessing the 605 is a new model(?) should be a similar price. Maybe a bit over $1k with some haggling.

That would be an outstanding buy if it was.

Isn't that great, its $500 in the US and about $1500 here.

Do we exist just to make profits for companies selling at cost in the US?

Or de we just get royally screwed?

This old chestnut.

Love it.

I guess it's just turnover.

Like a Nissan Pathfinder is $40K+ in Australia but about $US10K in the USA. Where's the reasoning and fairness in that.

It even happens with shoes. I always get shoes when I'm in LA.

C'est la vie.

For the wife, no doubt

Next time you're there can you get me a Porsche?

My sure guess is the mark up is on account of the Australian distributor, which goes into the pocket of the Australian distributor and not back to the manufacturer. So option #2, we get royally screwed. Unless of course you order overseas and do the import yourself, bypassing the local distributors mega-markup. That's what I do (except for my BenQ projector and DVDO video processor, the local prices were very competitive compared with US).

For example -deleted- (I'll get shot down in flames....)

Also, I forgot to mention: I don't want to manually set the sound levels of the speakers with an SPL meter. Do all of the recievers mentioned have accurate auto-calibration?
