apex Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Hello all, Just hoping someone can enlighten me. Have recently got the samsung tv, but have discovered that the digital output is only sending L & R channels to my amplifier. Is there a way to get the AC3 5.1 channels output. Surely there are transmissions currently utilising this, but I have been watching and seeing no C,SR,SL, or LFE indicators on my amplifier. For what reason would they cripple an otherwise good digital tuner? Why bother including optical output if that is the case as there is negligible gains over the analog outs otherwise. If I cannot correct this then I will need to get a STB with AC3 out after all. I went for the inbuilt digital tuner to avoid that exact situation. This set has been so good apart from this I feel rather deflated and conned. Please any information greatly appreciated.
MLXXX Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 A quick look at the user manual suggests it would be a good idea to check: D. Menu | Feature | Audio Format Rather than MPEG, select AC-3 if it is available. ____________________ You'll find that there is very little true 5.1 channel material telecast anyway. Some stations telecast a centre channel.
apex Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 Thanks, but I def have dolby digital selected when available. Having done a little trawling, realise that you are right, there is bugger all AC3 (with 5.1) transmission. Never realised that and am quite disappointed. If anyone knows of any AC3 broadcasts coming up please let me know. The sound issue is a future proofing matter and I would at least like to know if I have this feature before long, but do not know when any transmissions will occur. In the meantime perhaps we should consider how to get the stations off their asses and gear up towards utilising the sound capabilities available. After all, theatre experience is, for me at least, as much about the sound as the PQ. I have spent much more dollars and considerably more time towards creating a detailed sound field than I actually have on the the screen. If the stations dont correct this situation they will see viewers like me migrating further towards hire or buying, rather than watch their adds on poor quality sound. Their loss in the end...
sanitarium Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 AFAIK if the model number that you are quoting in the title is correct then it will have the AC3 audio. This is what the "x" stands for. I ran in to this instore where they were incorrectly labelling their TV's as only 7hd, but i checked the back and they were hdx
apex Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Yahoo....I have 5.1 output on "lost". Just so anyone knows thre is no issue. Thanks for the replies though.
