I believe Foxtail is going to Hong Kong very soon, so I thought id start a fresh thread about Hong Kong.

Now has anyone been there in the last month or so and got prices on any AVR's, the usual suspects Denon 3806, 2807 and 4806 or Yamaha 1700 and 2700.

Im pretty sure Foxy will get prices once he is over there, but if anyone could get the ball rolling would be nice.

Our dollar is boming now so its a good time to shop for HT over there, cause we all know we dont get the benifits of a high dollar from the retailers.

Cheers

Correct, the HKD is 6.379 to $1 AUD today is was a tad over 5.8 when I was there last year.

If anyone wants me to check prices on gear please post.

Once again I'll see if I can come back here while I'm still in HK for an on the spot update.

Do you know if they sell rotel gear over there?

I am currently in Hong Kong. Actually stay near the Tin Hau MTR on HK Island at the L' Causeway Hotel at 18 Kings Rd.

Just got back from Mong Kok (?). Thanks heaven, my wife and little son were not with me. The place was bloody crowded or what. Just amazing. Streets after streets choco blocked.

I managed to droped by the place that Foxtail mentioned in his previous trip to HK for AV scenery. Now I know the place where Foxtail got his photos from...the 16th floor (Global audio video??). They have the Denon 2807. The listed price I saw was HK$7880. Didnt bother to negotiate as I wasnt buying. But they do have alot of nice stuffs. The McIntosh amps were beautiful!

In advance, I know you guys would like to know more, but sorry guys if I wont be doing much postings or replying to emails as I will be spending most of my times going out with the wife and son  . Disneyland is tomorrow. The legs are tired or what.

Must have gone past that stop a dozen times back in January!

Know what you mean about the legs!

Have fun there mate and try and find the time to go to Tung Chung and catch the gondola to Ngong Ping and the Tian Tan Buddha......

Cheers,

Peter

I'll be in HK this week also, I'm usually there about every six weeks, have looked at audio a bit but I really couldn't be bothered lugging something heavy back with me even if it is cheap.

Hehe just been there myself on the 16th floor- the MF A5 was 13500 and the A3.5 was 7680. Current money changer/street rate there is 6.0 but I'm sure your bank/visa card would do a little better. Yep the MacIntosh amps were nice - so were the Jeff Rowlands, Chord, Burmeister, Jadis, Krell etc etc - c0ouldn't be bothered getting prices on those as they all weigh more than my 30kg baggage limit :D

These are not haggled prices by the way, as I am not inclined to buy. I'd say you could get another 10% off no trouble

On the 10th floor Century AV had nothing I fancied

On the 8th floor, they had the Focal/Esoteric room I visited last year

The Be1027 price is 42500, the similar sized Utopia is 70K (altho is evidently a **** to set up with side firing woofers), the Alto 90K (the best sounding and I'm warming to the citroen looks now;) ), whereas he didn't have the Nova (200K, I heard that last year - wonderful) nor the Grand Utopia (200kg each, 770K rrp, 480K street)

He also had a Cary 306 Keith - 40K before haggling. I didn't ask the esoteric prices...

Last stop was 7th floor - B&W 705 were 13.8K, 604 were 15K, Marantz SA11 15.3K and SA7s1 was 40K (nice). The guy wasn't too pleased with me when I inadvertantly stepped on one of his fat snakes whilst looking at the SA7, so I decided it was time to come back to the hotel and finish off my presentation - ... hmmm better go now then.

PS Went to the infamous Mong Kok 'ladies market' and bought bulk copy biz shirts (450 for 10) and Calvin Klein copy boxers for the kids (300 for 20) and Polo ties (260 for 5). Also getting 4 more biz trou by my previous tailor for 720HK, pick up Sat. All this in a couple of hours - good work I thought

When I was working in Hong Kong a few years ago it was as low as 3.2 to 1, that exchange rate was great !! (good for changing HKD to AUD)

Now with AUD in hand it's worth almost double!

A Pilot perhaps?, Airline Steward (don't think so), Travel Agent?, Importer?, IT Guru maybe?, he's just a smart bloke and good luck to him.

I'd be interested in a price on the Denon AVC-A1XV and AVC-A11XV, and also the Arcam FMJ-AV9, if they have Arcam there.

I'll be heading there again soon too and would like a heads up before I go.

Cheers

hehe not a hostie. I help people make drugs....

My new boss lives in HK, the last two didn't last the distance  I also have a brother who has lived here 25 years so I have been coming here since 1982. I can tell you it has changed so much since then - not all for the better either (esp regarding pricing/haggling)

Exchange rate now at 6.5, go you good thing. I'm there in may, I might not end up buying anything if 3808 is that close to being out and not in HK when I get there. But I have been looking at getting PS3 from HK cheapest in the world for ps3 (at least 300 cheaper than in aus) it's also the same region as US for BD movies
