cwt Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 As is clear to anyone who reads avs forums ; advanced authoring of hd dvd movie discs means currently that advanced audio codecs must be decoded in the player. This is not true of all discs however. Three audio hd dvds exist that have been authored in basic so can be decoded in an upmarket hdmi ver1.3 amp with decoders. These are Cream-Live in seattle 2.Barry Manilow Live just joking and 3.Earth Wind and Fire. Good to know a possibility exists for interactivity devoid discs for those who want maxed out bitrates for picture/sound

I'm betting a whole none.

It looks like there is a line in the sand that separates movie discs from the new dvd audio equivalent. Ive said before it makes no sense to buy decoders in the player as well as a new top of the line amp. I posted a question on avs recently about the dts hd/true hd decoder upgrade my amp was getting ;which sat incongruosly with the same decoders the onkyo hd dvd player presumably has

That'll probably be my next player. And until BD get real quality manufacturers on board, I'll be sticking to the PS3. They can keep their LG, Samsung and Panasonic. Even the Pioneer leaves a bad taste in my mouth after their first BD effort could be bought in a sony case for less than half the price That will make me question the value of anything they put out.
