Getting a PC at home in the next week or 2. Just wondering what owners of the Sony 40V are using for connection from a PC ?

The PC has a DVI out. Was hoping i could run a DVI to HDMI cable to my Yamaha RX-V1600, then HDMI to the Sony(saves me running a VGA cable to the screen and also saves a few hassles with my Harmony remote).

Graphics card is a Nvidia 5700, will output 1368x768 via VGA, and 1366x768 via DVI.(as far i know)

Am i going to have any problems with this setup ? Better solutions ? Any experience at all with this type of setup ? HDCP issues ?

Would a VGA to Component cable, then letting the Yamaha upconvert to HDMI be a better option ?

Any help much appreciated

Assuming you can get the video card and bravia to sync properly (I'm pretty sure it's possible if a little tricky) your best option by far is a DVI->HDMI cable, you'll probably need to compensate for overscan or something though. The fewer conversions the better so VGA->Component->Yamaha/Upconvert->HDMI would probably reduce the PQ quite alot more than any chances of improving it. I doubt you'll have any HDCP issues tho, HDCP only matters if you need it for something like Blu-Ray or Vista.

Alrighty then, i'll order myself a DVI -> HDMI cable and see how we go.

Thanks Skiller.

No one else running a PC through their V series ? Surroundfan, how's your MacMini hooked up ?

Cheers

Please let us know how you go - the vga connection is rediculously easy to use, plug it in, auto-adjust on the tv and your off. looks amazing. Only problem I have is when i upgrade the s-series to the x, vga apparently doesnt' do 1368x768.... and i'd want to use the full 1080p ability, meaning dvi-->hdmi is the only way i'll get it!

So is anyone out there running a setup similar to mine ?

Hooked it all up on friday. HTPC, DVI->HDMI to Yamaha AVR, HDMI to TV.

Started with a 1280x720 60Hz output from the HTPC, as this was how it was handed to me(built by little bro). Got a great picture straight off the bat, only problem is about 10mm around the entire outside of the desktop is cropped off. And no matter what i change the res to it doesn't improve.

Tried running 1366x768 but having some issues with that. Kind of goes blury(overscan ?)

Running an Nvidia 5700, though i'm thinking thats irrelavent, more inclined to think it has something to do with the scaler in the TV.

Anyone got any ideas at all ?

Running Powerstrip, and wondering if there is possibly a way to put soem kind of black border around my desktop ?

Any help or tips would be really appreciated

Cheers

I have my Mac Mini running over VGA at a 1:1 pixel mapped 1360x768 resolution. I did have to shift the image a few pixels to the right in the Sony's PC setup menu...

As an added bonus, I can now depreciate my TV on my tax as a computer monitor for the 'work-related' component of its use :D (I must do more errr... research into the effects of Bittorrent on FTA viewing patterns.)

Alright, i've somewhat given up on the DVI->HDMI PC connection. After much research i've found the Sony will only accept standard broadcast resolutions, so i'm stuck with 1280x720p or 1920x1080i. Still can't find a way around the desktop cropping so took a VGA cable home last night. Started up using the DVI/HDMI and changed the res to 1360x768. Shut down and connected the VGA, disconnecting the HDMI. Fire it all up again, and get a "signal not supported" error message on the Sony. Tried changing the refresh rate but now get no picture over either connection. Will take a monitor home tonight so i can reset the display settings.

Is anyone out there running a PC through their 40V via any connection ?? If so what res and refresh rate are you using ?? I couldn't seem to find any guide to refresh rates in the Sony manual.

Thanks

Matt
