I've got a Palsonic HD tuner and get pixelation on CH90 here in Brisbane. I wasn't sure if it was the cabling or old antenna (got new digital compatible one now) etc so got it checked out by a professional and the signal strength is right at the highest threshold. 3Kms clear line of sight to Mt Cootha.

This is the second STB as I sent the first back under warranty but still have the same problem.

Just wondering if this pixelation is because the STB has troubles with the signal being too strong and if so what would help drop the strength... some type of attenuator?

Any ideas????

Without accurate measurements of schannel power and quality (Bit Error Rate) it's difficult to tell exactly what your problem is.

I have to ask though... if a 'professional' measured your signal and said it was high, why didn't he fix it?

Did he tell you what the measurement of all your channels are in dBuV and what the BER reading was? (this would help greatly in determining your problem).

You may very well be correct that your signal levels are too high, being that close to the transmitters.

An important fact overlooked by many 'pro' installers, is that they only tend to look at the signals you want, not all the other signals that could be causing problems, such as analogue TV, FM radio, communications etc.

Certainly worthwile trying a variable attenuator like THIS

The pic and description is for the older PAL version. This has been replaced by the superior model with 'F' connectors (Same catalogue number)

Thanks Guys....

I found a signal splitter and put that inline last night and it definitely diminished the pixelation but not enough, took the splitter off and pixelation and sound drop outs increased.

From what I understand the splitter does drop the signal strength so inkeeping with that thought a bigger drop should clear the problem.

An attenuator looks like the go.....

Been checking out other threads in the forum, local and general, and the main issues seem to be around getting better reception not filtering it down.
