Hi there,

I'm just wondering if it is possible to connect my PC (Desktop PC running WXP, Radeon 9550, with latest drivers and Catalayst Control Centre) to my 46" Bravia X series via HDMI cable? (KDL46X2000)

I am using a DVI>HDMI converter>HDMI cable then into the TV. I have looked at all of the options in the Catalyst Control Centre, but have had no luck. I did have some sort of luck when I was experimenting with the windows option to " use this device as my primary monitor" or "extend my desktop to this monitor" I am not sure now.

I rang Sony and they said that I cannot connect the PC via HDMI, I must use the PC input cable.

Is this possible to achieve this with the setup I have specified? I am pretty sure I have seen other people connecting the two via HDMI.

Thanks for the advice!

Hello,

yes I am currently typing on my HTPC connected via DVI-HDMI cable to my 46X2000. You can connect both the PC input and HDMI simultaneously and switch between the two if need be, my PC does not display the boot sequence via HDMI and therefore I need the PC input to perform any BIOS alterations or observe any boot error messages. use the pc input then switch to HDMI as you change resolutions to check if the TV suppots that resolution.

You should be able to choose 768x1366 initially through control panel -> display, then switch up to 1080 if you can get a picture via HDMI, if you do not have these settings under control panel try the latest catalyst driver as it allows 720p and 1080i.

Shame on Sony for telling me it could not be done!

Any idea when I was trying I kept getting "device unsupported" I think the message was on the LCD screen.

I tried all possible settings (within reason) and still had no luck.

This error means a screen resolution or refresh rate has been selected that the panel does not support, common if you are trying to run it at the same refresh rate as most CRT monitors which can be set at over 100hz.

try 768x1366 at 50hz or 720 x 1280 at 50hz for starters, this is supported on both PC and HDMI inputs, once you have succeded on the HDMI input you can then switch it up to 1080 x 1920 @ 50/60hz. Ensure you select 50 or 60hz and you will not go wrong.

I am using a Nvidia GeForce 7900GT and it recognised the Bravia and sets to the native resolution automatically

I have got my PC connected running Vista Ultimate and a crappy Geforce 6200. I got a HDMI to DVI adapter from JayCar for 15 bucks and set the TV to full pixel and it is perfect 1080 x 1920.

Hey guys, still no luck

Managed to get it working at 1920x1080 30hz (will not work at 50/60hz) but the desktop screen has large blue bars either side of the background, but when I play a video in media player it goes full screen. When I try 1920x1080 50 or 60hz it displays "unsupported check your device output on the TV"

I could also get it working @ 1280x720 50hz but the screen was cut off around all of the edges slightly.

Could it be the videocard that is the problem? WXP SP2 / Radeon 9550, latest catalyst drivers and control centre.

I have attached a few screenshots of various settings. (coming soon, how do I upload screenshots?

It's most likely your videocard limiting your setup.

128mb card trying to pushout 1920x1080 on 100+cm screen maybe too much to ask from the card.

Try a friends newer ATI or Nvidia card. If that solves the problem then you it's the video card.

Since you are running AGP that might be hard.

FYI I connected my bravia x to the computer using hdmi/dvi and it auto detected 1080p@60htz (running 8800gts video card)

Possible, but as I have a Radeon 9200 64MB pushing 1920x1200@60Hz to a Dell 2407 I wouldn't be too sure the card is under-powered per se.

Thats why i asked if he could test a friends card preferably something with a little more power, as it could be his card that has a problem if the friends card works.

I had a geforce 7900gt that could not run 1920 x 1080 or even 1600 x1200.

Replaced it with 7950gt and problems went away, same driver. By spec the 7900 should have been able to run it , but it didn't. Tried all sorts of drivers nothing worked.

So what i am saying is it might be his card not just being underpowered. By spec his card should run it.
